How wonderful we have two new posts! I was afraid our forum would fail. They call it the 'daily grind.' The thing we don't like to do, that grinds us down. Eating normally, healthily, moderately, and without 'trigger' foods for years... and years... and years. That is the daily grind.

The rewards of consistent low carb living are great. Great health. A normal body size. Yes, sometimes I look lustfully at treats and try to persuade myself I would only have one. But I've tried that many times before. It never works.

Sometimes I miss the high-carb treats. But there are rewards to my way of life. Things I don't miss now that I am thin - having six sizes of clothes in my closet because I was always on the way down (dieting) or on the way up (bingeing); seat belt extenders; dreading my annual physical; paying a fortune for 5X and 6X clothing; huffing and puffing my way up a single flight of stairs; high blood pressure; diabetes; sleep apnea; acid reflux disease; feeling fat and different.

For those kinds of rewards, I can put up with a few crazy thoughts.

That's a very persuasive list, Patience. Put that up against a piece of chocolate cake on any occasions, and see which you'll choose!

One simple reward for me is being able to wear the same (old) clothes from one season to the next. I have a couple pairs of summer shorts I saved, just in case. Well, just in case is a fact now. And I'm very happy to be wearing those old comfy shorts, thank you very much.

Now if I can only get into my favorite corduroy jumper next fall...

Hey there! I just got to maintenance after finally hitting goal last month. I have bounced up a little so am still trying figure this out...how many carbs my body can handle, social situations with new people, etc. I have people in my life who were supportive during the weight loss phase that are now trying to pressure me into eating more "normally" because I don't need to lose anymore. I am not going to do that, but still.....

I am going up to my parents for the fourth. Now maybe this is a weird problem...how to keep the kids from eating all my food? My mom will buy stuff special for me and the kids will eat all my cheese and snack sticks first before moving on to the carby treats. Last year at the family party I got to the food at the end of the line and there was literally no meat left. My cousins and their families were a bunch of pigs and took it all. Luckily I had brought a green salad (there wasn't one) and a little cheese and meat. Someone asked me where I got the salad and I caught my niece eating all my meat sticks.

I think I am going to have to talk to my mom to see what my aunt's menu is going to be... Bring stuff if necessary and make sure to get in line before my cousins.

That is so frustrating when you have limited food choices to begin with and others who can/will eat anything gobble it up first. My DH is trained fairly well, but those I am not around every day, not so much. Keeping a stash separate from the rest of the food helps, but it just gets old sometimes.

I've been at my official goal for 7 months now (wow, it doesn't seem that long!), and while I am happy with my food choices most of the time, I do get tired of wading through menus or trying to find what works at a buffet or packing snacks just in case there are no good options. But, I'd rather deal with that than all the other stuff that came with being overweight, that's for sure!

Hello, Renee. As anyone here will tell you--now the "real work" of weight management begins. I don't know what to tell you about your greedy family, but do your best to hold onto your stash of healthy foods!

I probably won't be posting a weekly weight. I'm not at "goal" but I am at a historic set-point weight, 149-150. Boring to report every week! But that doesn't diminish the challenge of staying there, with the hope of a lower plateau sooner or later.

Have a good weekend everybody!

Yes. I find myself fighting a mindset that now I can "relax" in the eating department. Not so much with off plan foods, but with the foods that are on plan that I need to limit the amount or times a week I eat them.

Congrats on 7 months! I agree I would rather deal with everything you mentioned than be where I was 18 months ago or even 6 months ago.

Renee H. is right - at least for me. I have had my struggles with weight gain eating only vast quantities of foods that are on my plan. But then I figured out that the hippopotamus is one of the world's largest animals, weighing in the tons. And it eats only grass!

However, I don't experience food cravings and withdrawal symptoms from 'on plan' excess, like I do with carby, sugary snacks.

Yay! I survived graduation season! On to the 4th of July!

I am from a family that fights our weight. We all do! When I visit, I buy my own stuff. And the others eat it.

I have visited my sister's on day trips. I know for a fact that vegetables rot in her refrigerator, uneaten, like they used to rot in my refrigerator. So why does she eat them when they are mine and she knows I can't eat her carby snack stuff?

I actually bought myself a supply of zucchini, cauliflower and celery, and hid it in my bedroom!
