Question Coffee

I drink coffee. I don't make it as strong as most people and drink it black, no sugar. My question: If I drink coffee in addition to the 8-10 cups of water, am I still on plan? This is just plain old Folgers coffee 1 1/2 scoops to a 10 cup pot.

Everywhere I read about diets, it's get rid of the coffee. (insert whine here) Anyone know why?

I'm no expert, but I was just reading tonight and on p.157 in my book (carbohydrate addict's lifespan program) it says that you can have coffee instead of breakfast, and once with your reward meal. It suggests that caffeine might induce cravings (decaffeinated is suggested).

If you're anything like me, you can't live without your coffee. I used to drink around eight cups a day, which now are replaced with water. The caffeine withdrawl wasn't so bad, and the upside is that I enjoy it that much more when I do drink it. (..and I don't get as many headaches as when I used to frequently drink it and was unable to get a cup on occasion.)

Just thought I would throw in my two cents!
Congrats on the fifteen pounds you've lost!

Love and laughter,
BabyGirl.

Thanks BabyGirl,

I saw that too, finally. Plus there was a news article about coffee affecting blood fats or sugars in some people.

I cut my coffee consumption by about 75% today. 5 cups instead of 15. Sheesh didn't realize I was drinking so much!

I most likely am not one of those because my cholesterol is fine. I think dh is, though. His cholesterol is 220 - fasting. Mine is 180 - non fasting.

I finally found my records of this WOE. I started in October 1999, and hit my lowest weight January 19, 2000 - 127. I haven't really been able to get back on plan and stay with it since then. This time!!

My real goal is to just stick with it, to live it.

I've been using fitday to keep track of carbs. I should say, to learn about carbs. I put in coffee, the amount I drink, and it's 9 extra carbs. That's just plain black coffee. BUMMER!!!

BASpider,

Yes, it's sad but true: coffee has carbs! The caffeine is also a diuretic, so I usually drink an extra 8 oz of water for every cup of coffee. I can't remember what the books say, but I'm pretty sure that you need to balance coffee with extra water.

Dani

Coffee is 4 calories and 1 carb. Drinking coffee, therefore, is eating something. Drinking coffee all day long is munching, allllll daaay loooonnnggg. Good bye old friend.
