Default Ketosis - No weight loss

In 2009 I did the paleo plan and only started to lose weight at week 4. After this time, I lost weight very quickly.

I have started low-carbing again 4 weeks ago and the same thing is happening, I have only just started to lose. This time I bought ketone sticks and I went into ketosis on day 9 on starting but only lost a 1 lb after 14 days. However over the last few days as I have gone into the fourth week I have lost 4 lb.

I'm really curious why it takes so long for the diet to work (for me). I have several health conditions: Hashimotos thyroid disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Lipoedema.

My thoughts are that it could be leaky gut syndrome and my body needs to heal first....could it be linked to lipoprotein lipase.........anyone else have any thoughts. I'm more interested in a biological reason than an analysis of what I am eating.

(I am very carb sensitive and just the smallest amount of carbs and I fall out of ketosis - I'm currently having no more than 20 grams and that seems to keep me in ketosis)

I would be so pleased to hear from anyone with any ideas.

People with Hashimotos thyroid disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis do have a harder time losing weight due to the disease and also many of the drugs taken to relieve symptoms. But there are many on this board who have lost and become healthier. Both are autoimmune diseases, so completely eliminating foods that inflame you is necessary to get the best results. For me it was removing all grains and dairy proteins, in addition to keeping ketogenic. And intermittent fasting actually makes it all easier for me to follow; I've experimented a lot, but 1-2 big meals in a 4-6 hr window feels the most comfortable for me.

You may find more good ideas in the "Atkins" subforum as Induction is closer to Ketogenic than this "General" subforum.

You may want to check out the discussion about Jason Fung and the Obesity Code over in the Diabetes sub-section -- intermittent fasting seems to be the answer for many people who aren't getting results just from ketosis.

Thank you for your replies.

Very interesting! As I mentioned this week I have been losing. The only different thing I've been doing is missing breakfast (due to be disorganised). However, since reading your post I have formalised missing breakfast as IF and continued to follow this pattern making is a proper 16/8 fast and I've lost even more!

I still need to read loads more but I think you may have really given me the tools to lose weight. I'm guessing that all my health issues have significant hormone consequences and I may be quite insulin resistant. I'm going to be interested in whether this helps the lipoedma fat though which is far in the adipose tissue.

You may also want to read more about ketosis vs being fat-adapted, what it can and cannot do. http://www.tuitnutrition.com/search...sis+Fat+adapted

There is more info about IF on the DietDoctor website:

In April there was an on-line summit about Lipedema. Here is a link to the FB group and other resources in a post about the summit.

That has turned into my most reliable form of IF. By not eating when I'm not hungry, I find the most workable pattern.
