Default Wonton Wrappers

Hi Karen!

I read somewhere that 3 oz. of wonton wrappers (just the normal kind you'd buy in the supermarket fridges) have only 5g. of carbs. I can't find any support for this claim on the net and of course, the packaging doesn't list this information. Do you know how many carbs would be in them? The first 2 ingredients are flour and starch (Oh-oh!) But for maintenance, or just doing general LC, Sugar Busters type or gi diet type plan, is it okay to have a few of these and just watch the quantity?

The ingredients are:
flour (gulp)
starch (gulp)
frozen egg albumen
potassium bicarbonate
sodium bicarbonate
salt
sodium propionate

Thanks!
Lily

I would say that the recipe provided by TarHeel looks pretty accurate, so that would mean 1.5 wrappers is around 8 grams of carbohydrates.

Lilygirl, are you trying to trick me into making this decision for you? Personally, I wouldn't touch them because wheat doesn't agree with me. But I'm not you.

Hmmm, come to think of it, I guess I was trying to get you to make the decision for me. Sorry! LOL!! I think I'll avoid them as well (unless I can make my own with whole wheat flour)

Thanks for the advice ladies!

Hmm, you can tell where my mind is today... I read this as 'Wanton wrappers". So what would that be? A lovely black lace shawl and mantilla? Leather corset and fishnets? Or maybe red Saran Wrap....

Cheers,

Friday

Well, pre-LC, I used to buy wheat kernels and grind my own flour. Certainly was whole wheat.

What about rice paper wrappers? I think they are lower in carbs, if I remember correctly.

Friday - "Wanton Wrappers"! That's hilarious! Thank you for making me laugh out loud!

Thanks cmcole, I'm going to look into that. I made them with the store bought wontons (Friday...I said WONton, not WANton !) and I just loved them so I'm afraid Im addicted now and have to find an alternative. Thanks for your suggestions! I'll see if I can make them!

There is another product that you could use, but it isn't as easily available. Look for dried beancurd sheets. I used them tomake spring rolls last week. They're a little odd to use but they do work.

You get the packet of sheets, soak a sheet in warm water until pliable, cut into squares and wrap the filling as usual then deep fry. I filled them with ground shrimp and garlic and they were heavenly. Don't wrap the sheet around the filling too many times - the thinner the wrap the crispier they will be.

They are called 'Yuba' in Chinese I think. Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese stores should stock them. They are a tofu bi-product.

Default wonton wrappers - carb count

Hi all! I was looking for information about the number of carbs in wanton wrappers and came upon this website and this thread. Lucky me!

According to the nutritional information provided for Azumaya brand wanton wrappers, a serving consists of 8 wanton wrappers and each serving contains 30 grams of carbohydrates. In other words, about 3.7 crabs per wanton wrapper.

Hope this helps.
