I weigh myself every time I go to the gym (3X/week), on the same scale. I am a 200 lb 73 y.o. white male following a generally low-carb diet.

I've found that if I binge and eat a "significant' amount of carb--say, a small loaf of bread--my weight might go up as much as 8 lbs, roughly 60 hours after I've pigged out; and it goes back down to normal after an addition 72 hours or so.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I always put on more water weight after I eat gluten foods and it takes about 2 days for my weight to hit its max and 2-3 days to go back down. When I eat sugar my weight reaches max the next day and takes about 2 days to come off. My dr suggested gluten foods cause more water retention because they are more inflammatory.

What is your weight? Typically, how much weight do you put on? And do you find that your temporary weight gain is proportional to the amt of carb you ingest?

What you're experiencing is the body's absorption of water and salt retention due to eating a lot of carbs. This is the normal dynamic and is also why those going low carb lose a lot of weight in the first couple weeks primarily due to water and mineral elimination. Very normal.

I'm well-aware of this. It's all about glycogen. I'm curious to know the size of the effect.

without carbing up my accurate scale (I'll give brand/model) if asked has shown my changes of up to 8lbs on two consecutive days. Lots of variables!

Wish I could give you a consistent weight response to carb consumption, but that's impossible and varies by individual due to many variables. If that's really what you're asking . . . Otherwise, experiment to your heart's content to determine your unique N=1 response. Then, you'll know. It's not a situation where it follows the laws of thermodynamics where you can accurately calculate weight changes with a formula; however, many of the devout CICO camp think it's possible.
