Default Two years!

Most of you know my story...Two years ago today, I started a journey. I was 365lbs, a diabetic, and high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea. I was wearing 4/5X shirts and 48/50 pants. I made a decision after receiving the news from my doc, things had to change. Two years later, I'm 120lbs lighter, off all medications (except migraine meds). The diabetes diagnoses has the word "resolved" next to it in my chart. I'm now in 2x shirts and 38/40 pants. I still have a little work I want to do, but I'm maintaining the weight loss! Best piece of advice I can give anyone, make the decision to start today, and then do it. No turning back, no starting Monday, start and stick to it. Seriously, if I can do it anyone can!

I love your advice and agree 100%!

I just wrote a post about maintenance a few moments ago...hope you don't mind if I share parts of it here:

...it's still a battle, every so often, with "Fat Jo" even in Maintenance, but seriously, I'd rather be "Fighting this GOOD Hard Fight" weighing 116 lbs then having to battle her fat ass in losing weight all over again! It ain't gonna happen cause I REFUSE to REGAIN!!!

Onward, DOWNWARD to Maintenance into Infinity and Beyond!

Stay 100% OP today and let tomorrow take care of itself!
Wishing you continued success on your journey to a HEALTHIER you, B!

Thanks and no don't mind you sharing at all! I was looking through some old pictures last night too from about 4 years ago, I never thought I'd be away from that guy in those pictures. I looked horrible, felt horrible, but had convinced myself otherwise. I kept telling myself I'll do it one day. I could still be sitting here today saying Monday, January 1st. It took being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes to get me started, hopefully it doesn't take something that drastic with everyone!

What an inspiration! Thank you for sharing. I've gained and lost 100s of LBs over the years. Knock-on-wood I have yet to experience any significant weight related health issues, but deep down I know it is only a matter of time. I'm hoping this will be "the time" that I can stick with this WOE permanently and get/stay healthy. Your story is proof that it can be done.

Congratulations! I love the fact that you did not just accept the D2 diagnosis and go down the "chronic and progressive" road of diabetes medications; instead you made dramatic changes to your diet to improve your health. By controlling your blood sugar and insulin with diet, you reshaped your body in the process. Fantastic! -- and what a wonderful gift to your family.

I just checked out your photos. You are to be congratulated. So few people choose this path to wellness but those who do, like you, are so inspirational. You never know who you will influence to take charge of their own health. Again, Congratulations!

Thanks everybody for your kind words. And nope, I didn't accept that diagnosis! That was my motivation. I accepted the fact that I had it, I accepted the fact that I was going to have to start some medication at that time, but I was not accepting the fact that that was now going to be my life forever! I realize that's what you were saying - just had to put it out there! I don't think I've ever been more determined about anything in my life. I don't think I've ever known myself to have this amount of determination in me either. I was not going to stay on the metformin. I started reading that people could come off of it and I was going to become one of those people.

Again, thanks to all of you for your kind words!

Great job--A1C from 9.0 to 5.0, triglycerides from 532-73, off all meds, that is as impressive as your weight loss!

I know you're thankful for having made 180 degree change from "that guy" in the 4 year old pictures!

Sometimes that's the kick in the pants we all need, being diagnosed with an ailment that is correctable with the proper WOE.

For me personally, I was just so sick and tired of playing the lose/gain game with myself (for 35 wasted years)...and figured my luck was running out on being one of those fortunate morbidly obese HEALTHY people with no medical issues at all.

But I figured I'd better do it now, cause I wasn't getting any younger, so I could be an über healthy and vibrant 60, 70, 80 and hopefully 90 year old someday!

Congrats again and wishing you continued success, B!

Nice milestone B-Worthey. 2 years at it and still going strong! I love that you kicked diabetes in the butt and got your health back. I'm sure your family is very proud of you and you should be proud of your accomplishment as well.. You were going strong when I first started here and you were definitely one of the many that I followed for inspiration. Your success rubbed off a little, I guess 'cause I'm still at it, too. Lets both keep diabetes behind us. We know what we have to do. We just have to do it. Here's to your 3rd year, your 4th, and your 5th year sticking to your program.

Congratulations on your two year anniversary and here's to many more years of Good Health. It's been quite a ride...off or reduced many meds, RESOLVED diabetes on your medical chart, and you didn't mention exercising, playing football and being a new father again. As Liz mentioned, what a wonderful gift for your whole family.
