Doctors recognize that the "Obese/Overweight" BMI chart is flawed and does not represent people equally. the results are a bit skewed under a whole slew of circumstances, even age. Even at my heaviest, my doctors have always praised my lower-end Blood pressure and resting heart rate- they would always say, "you're a perfect specimen of health.. but you need to lose 40 lbs." (listen to me toot my horn!) The truth is, regardless of how "healthy" you are, statistics show a correlation between high BMI and disease/early death. A lot of it is silly boxes that the scientific community feels the need to put us in- but they make for nice goals for people like me who do best with hard numbers (and not pants sizes, which i am never patient enough for!)
here's a neat website that gives a rundown of perks and flaws of the BMI chart: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_mass_index

And Sarar- You're totally right. The Man is WAY messing with sizes. theres not even a standard for inches to pant size (with womens, at least). fashionable clothing places make money off of making you feel good for fitting "one size less" than you thought you were. talk about manipulation!

I've recently noticed a change in the supportive weight loss comments from my friends. Now I'm getting the "you've lost enough" comments. I still have 135 as my goal 'cause I'm finally getting the weight from my back, waist, and stomach. I'm at another platuea, but I think with patience I can lose the last bit I want. I do know that any kind of change makes those in our lives have to change as well--assimilation and accomodation. I've always been the fat, funny, outrageous one. Now I am infringing on the territory of the "nice and attractive" ones. I no longer have to overcompensate with confrontations and controversy. These were some of my character defects and recovery has been essential to maintaining abstinence from overeating and sobriety from alcoholism. Keeping a simple life helps my head and my body. It just strikes me as funny--you know my weird sense of humor--that size 6 seems to have put off a radar that I am infringing on others' territory. Kind of saying, "okay now, Sara....you aren't supposed to get smaller than me." It is okay, it will pass over time.

I gotta say a couple of words about the joy of crossing my legs. I remember how far my calf used to stick out when I crossed my legs...it was like a railroad crossing arm blocking traffic. Now my crossed leg rests sweetly down the side to my other leg. I just love the way that feels. No pushing pressure between my thighs. I get to be one of those long-legged women swaying a provocative high-heeled shoe on the end of her toes. So sexy!!

I'm so glad I have a place to share these narcissitic thought meanderings. Goodness, I've made my heart flutter this morning!!!
Have a great day...think of me when you cross your legs,
Sara<><

Hmm. Something else to look forward to. The crossing-the-legs thing, not the jealousy.

Bra-shopping is something I try to make as easy as possible. I love stores that do "bra-fittings." (NOT) Like our WOE and food decisions, we're stupid consumers and couldn't possibly figure out what size we need. Men's clothing is so easy. Measure chest, measure neck, measure sleeve, measure waist, measure inseam and voila -- clothing that fits. Maybe it's not quite so easy, but it's not far from it, based on my DH and DS. Now women's shirts are starting to not only be sized by some odd size scale, but by bust size as well.

Default Bumping uglies

Already 110 posts on this thread yet no mention whatsoever about one of the most important differences after losing a significant amount of weight

Let's get fair dinkum here. How much more pleasant and enjoyable is it bumping uglies once the spare tyre around the mid-section has disappeared?

No more beached whales floundering about long after the tide has turned.
No more turtles flipped over on their backs unable to right themselves.

Does wonders for the exercise regime as well

what a great email.
I"m new, but I've already had the carb nightmare. I dreamed I ate a breaded chicken nugget. I actually woke up in the morning feeling like I blew it, and then realized it was just a bad dream.

Are we talking sex? Should a lady kiss and tell? Okay, I'm no lady.

My husband has lost 30 pounds as well. Hello!! We connect sooooo much better now. And can I say positions? Worlds of opporunity!

Sing it now, "New Sensations!"

Yep. Amen to that!

Amazing what works when you lose 85 pounds. And DH is down about 50. Thought things were good before...

There is some science to this, as I understand. As my DH & DS's doctor explains, having excess fat causes the body to produce estrogen. Yes, men, too. So he told my son, who wasn't going into puberty. So when my DH lost 50 pounds. Bedroom workouts!

Yeah, that's what we're talkin' about. Otherwise known as horizontal folk dancin'

And what better music than New Sensaaaaaaaaation to help get it on. Written and performed by one of our truly great Aussie bands INXS ...... love that band name

So all together now:-

NEW SENSATION

Live baby live
Now that the day is over
I got a new sensation
In perfect moments
Impossible to refuse
Sleep baby sleep
Now that the night is over
And the sun comes like a god
Into our room
All perfect light and promises

Gotta hold on you
A new sensation
A new sensation
Right now
Gonna take you over
A new sensation
A new sensation

Dream baby dream
Of all that’s come and going
And you will find out
In the end
There really is
There really is no difference

Cry baby cry
When you’ve got to get it out
I’ll be your shoulder
You can tell me all
Don’t keep it in ya
Well that’s the reason why I’m here

Are you ready for a new sensation
A new sensation
Right now
Gonna take you on a new sensation
A new sensation

Hate baby hate
When there’s nothing left for you
You’re only human
What can you do
It’ll soon be over
Don’t let your pain take over you

Love baby love
It’s written all over your face
There’s nothing better we could do
Than live forever
Well that’s all we’ve got to do

Hey now I’m gonna take a new sensation
A new sensation
