Default Sauerkraut: Yes? No? Maybe?

I have read the CALP book and it says that cabbage (all kinds) are allowed as craving reducing veggies BUT I don't know if that would include sauerkraut or not. Any ideas? Thank you!

It sure would be nice to have some sauerkraut and weinies for a hot lunch every now and then!

Hi CollarBone-
I do have suewrkraut as a veggie when I go to Costco for my monthly CM lunch of a hotdog (no bun), lots of deli mustard and double kraut (plus fountain diet coke). It is not a great veggie as it is filled with salt, but I think it is okay once in a while. If this was my RM I would have a large salad, eat the dog with the bun, and still double the kraut. I have never done this for a RM as I don't really want to waste my RM on a hotdog (LOL!) or at lunch.
Welcome to CALP.
BTW- I love cabbage. I sautee it in olive oil and garlic- wonderful. I also make cabbage soup, homemade slaw, and have flound the already shredded cabbage in a bag is great just to throw in a pan and stir fry up.

Eno, thank you so much for such an informative reply! I suspected that the salt would be a no-no, but it's good to know that I can have it for lunch occasionally if I'm craving a hot and hearty meal. I'm not much of a cabbage fan (unless it's wrapped around big greasy cabbage rolls!) but I'll give your sauteeing idea a shot.

I know I'm going to have to get creative with my vegetable intake if I'm going to make this work. I'm pretty sure I'll want to gouge my eyes out with a cucumber spear if that's all I eat for weeks at a time.

I've been lurking here for a week or so and I'm incredibly impressed with your stats. It's great to see someone who has succeeded stay active on the boards! Thanks again!

You are welcome. I love most vegies and have no problem eating them. I buy them frozen when there is a BOGO deal, and always have spinach, broccoli and green beans in the freezer. A head of cabbage goes a long way here, and I LOVE leftovers. It is fun to go on the recipe area and find new ways to eat vegies. I find olive oil and lots of garlic makes anything better!
