Default Lab values after 1 year on Atkins

I had my cholesterol levels drawn the month before i started low carbing- and just now, a year later

My dr who could not support me in doing Atkins was very pleased with the changes!

A year ago -prior to low carbing
my cholesterol was 184
Triglicerides 79
HDL 51
LDL 117
Chol/HDL ratio 3.6

THis month after 1 year low carbing
cholesterol 218
Triglycerides 53 !!!!!!
HDL 86 !!!!!!
LDL 121
Chol/HDL ratio 2.5 !!!!!!!

This means so much to me mostly because my DH has been watching me eat high fat /low carb for a year. He always scoffs at me when he see's me with the mayo or the dressing or the butter. This is my proof that it's ok and actually good for me. I've actually gone up a level of protection because my HDL went up so high! YAY

Also, my blood pressure at this physical was 100/65 down from 135/ 85 and i've always had a problem with high heart rate, and that was normal now.

I had lost 25 lbs in the year prior to low carbing, then i lost 26 lbs in this last year low carbing . I have about 10 lbs to my goal.
Thanks for listening - this support means a lot to me.
KIM

That's fantastic Kim!

Isn't it great to prove all the naysayers wrong?

Hi Kim

Great results but I was wondering why your overall cholesterol went up... 184-218 ... that is 34 points up. The Dr. is not concerned about that???

The thing to be concerned about in readings is the ratio. Kim's ratio of:

Quote:
Chol/HDL ratio 2.5 !!!!!!!

Is fantastic because anything below 4 provides excellent protection against heart disease.

Lori
The total cholesterol went up in my case because my HDL - good cholesterol went sky high. It is the ratio of the total cholesterol to the HDL that is important and mine went down from 3.6 to 2.5. I asked the dr which labs he'd rather i had, the ones that were from before or after. He said definitely AFTER!!!
