Question Mastering the Zone vs. Zone Meals in Mins

In Mastering the Zone they have 1 1/4 cup of broccoli as one carb, but in Zone Meals in mins they have 4-5 cups (forget the exact amount at the moment?) as one carb block? Very confusing?

I am not sure if I should use fitday or the book for measuring. I know for packaged stuff fitday is a dream, but for other things it gets confusing. Fitday has for one cup of chopped steamed broccoli as one carb also.

I checked the dates the 2 books were published. Both in the same year 1997.

Check out this site:
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/nut_search.pl

It gives very good detail on nutritional information and solved my cups vs. weight problem.

__________________________________________

Broccoli, raw, 1 cup, chopped = 88 grams

Carbohydrate, by difference g 4.611
Fiber, total dietary g 2.640

4.611-2.640=1.971 carbs or 2 carbs

4.5 cups = 396 grams = 9 carbs = 1 block

_________________________________________

Broccoli, cooked, boiled, drained, without salt, .5 cup, chopped = 78 grams

Carbohydrate, by difference g 3.947
Fiber, total dietary g 2.262

multiply all numbers by 2 so the calculation is easier
1 cup = 156 grams

Carbohydrate, by difference g 7.894
Fiber, total dietary g 4.524

7.894-4.524=3.37 carbs

2.67 cups (2 2/3 cups) = 417 grams = 9 carbs = 1 block

Hope that helps.

Broccoli is one of those things I don't worry too much about. I eat ALOT of it. I figure about 2C is about a block. Netzer's is a great guide for food counts. I believe Fitday does not subtract the fiber.
