Default coconut oil search...

I read on one of these boards about cooking with coconut oil so while I was out for groceries I looked for it. No luck. Granted I didn't go to GNC but none of the groceries had it. I did get some little salad shrimp, lots of fresh veggies and make up a stir fry in olive oil.

Thanks again for all the good recipes and ideas folks!

Have you tried a natural foods store? It's usually in a refrigerated case, but I have seen it on the shelves. Try looking for natural coconut butter instead of oil. The brand I see here in Canada is from Omega Nutrition, but I'm sure there are many more in the USA.

Here's a page jammed-full of info on coconut oil.

This might be a dumb question, but is coconut oil the same as palm oil? I'm not really educated in the benefits of different oils, only really know the basics that olive oil and others like canola are better than some others. However I do remember my mother always saying that palm oil was one of the worst oils for your health, this of course was many years ago. I guess since coconuts come from palm trees it got me wondering if they were the same thing does anyone know???

I got my coconut oil at Henry's marketplace (health food store) I had to ask because they keep it with the hair conditioners. My doctor sells it in his supplement store.

Default Virgin Coconut Oil

I just happened upon a website:
www.tropicaltraditions.com
I did not check to see how much it costs, but I got on here to do a search and possibly start a post to see if anyone has tried using coconut oil to boost their metabolism. They sell virgin coconut oil. They have alot of interesting information about the benefits of using the oil.

Hi Koko:

Coconut oil and palm oil are two differnt types of oil. But both types were used as hydrogenated oils in processed foods for a number of reasons, one of which was to preserve shelf life.

Non-hydrogenated, unprocessed palm oil is abundant in tocotrienols, which are extended members of the Vitamin E family. Tocotrienols are very hard to find in our food supply. Palm oil, barley and rice bran are the best sources. You should be able to find it in a HFS. I've been meaning to get some myself.

Here's a link on info about fats that might help:
