Default doubting thomas....

I've generally accepted in the past, mainstream medicines viewpoint which facilitates a low fat diet to achieve weight loss, but what motivates me is how I felt so tired towards the end of a work day and how trapped I felt by indulging in a donut/muffin to ease my hunger pangs. The only drawback is the initial fatigue and headaches as I try to beat my carbo addiction. How long do the side effects usually last and are ther any tips to mediate the symptoms?

Hi Kev,

Welcome aboard! It takes a few days to get over the carb withdrawl, and it just goes away. It's better to be strict in the beginning, and following things to the T, but 2-5 days should be all it takes to over come the side effect of going "dry"

Keep us posted on your progress!

thanks for the encouragement...but are headaches a sign of not getting enough carbohydrate or is it just your body indulging in withdrawal syndrome...

The headaches are not due to low-carb, it's just the shock of switching fuels, different people react differently, some don't even notice it. It takes a while for your body to work effeciently with a new type of foods and percentages. Make sure you take your multi-vitamins and some patassium and and cal/meg as well, they should help.

...and make sure to drink water. At least 64 oz. + 8 more ounces for every 25 pounds you wish to lose.

Good tip about the water - I've discovered that headache can be a sign of dehydration.

Also, on a LC WOE, your body tends to *speak* to you in different ways - you have to be more careful to listen to the different signals.

I found that *hunger pangs* were different too, a lot to get used to on this WOE. Once you get the hang of it tho, it's a piece of cake. (so to speak )

Kev:

Pay attention to what else your body is saying to you besides the headaches. Any time that I have switched my diet or given up something, I have gotten headaches. With this diet, I got the headaches, but I also got the feeling of not being hungry, a little extra energy and my heel spur pain eased up dramatically as well.
