Default Vegetarian Food Review:

Okay. So being a low carb vegetarian is not the easiest thing in the world to be when you're pregnant, right? I mean, everybody laughs at all the funny food cravings. But few people say anything about all the food AVERSIONS you get!

Quite frankly, when you'r sick and throwing up, the very last thing many women are craving is eggs and tofu! You might be thankful if you can simply keep the crackers and ice cream down.

So with that in mind, you can understand why I purchased Fantastic Foods Carbtastic Fast Naturals Ready Meals in Vegetarian Penne With "Meat" Sauce a couple of months ago, and just couldn't bring myself to open up the box and eat the stuff. All that protein just didn't look appealing at all. I did bring myself to try the Fettuccini Alfredo a month ago, but I didn't really like it that much. The penne with meat sauce looked as if I would like it even less....But lucky for me, I was wrong! It's not absolutely fabulous, but it's pretty darn good! Even with my finicky, pregnancy prejudiced self, I was able to eat the whole serving and keep it down! And I'd buy it again! (Plus, this stuff comes ready made, and all I had to do was microwave it. So this is a product you can take to work or serve whenever you are short on time or will power.)

So here are the details:
It's lacto ovo vegetarian.
It's 8 grams of net carbs 9 (22 grams carbs, 14 grams FIBER!)
It's got 20 grams of protein, including 15 grams soy protein.
It's trans fat free.

I found it at one of my local grocery stores. If it's not available in regular grocery store, you can probably find it in a health food store, along with all the other Fantastic Foods mixes.

Hope this review helps somebody out there that's struggling with being a veggie low carber!

Best wishes, as always--

Faith

Thanks, This is interesting. I have used Fantastic Food products for a while. I thought they were all vegan or at least lacto vegetarian. These do contain eggs, though?

Ya know-- some of the Fantastic Foods Low carb products are lacto/ovo, because they contain egg whites. And some of the foods are flat-out vegan. It depends on which Fantastic Food you pick. Amazingly, they give you ALL the details about each product on their website-- including what's vegan and what's not. Cool huh? And almost hard to believe! Who in heck gives you so much info about their products these days??? Here's the website with the foods and the nutritional information: http://www.fantasticfoods.com/scrip...lowcarb.php#700

(Who ventured to try the vegetarian Chicken Gumbo Soup in a cup for lunch yesterday. Not bad!!! Even as a picky, pregnant person, I'd eat this one again!)
