Default Exercise! wk of Jan 15, '18 MLK Jr Day

Thu Jan 18 - 30 min walk around the neighborhood in Atlanta with my friend.
Snow-Lanta...

More snow-Lanta...

icicles hanging off someone's tree...

She has a Twister Board too, that I spent about a minute on to see how that worked, so will be using that. The unofficial goal is 2 hours a week - that thread has gone inactive but I would like to keep that up here.

Fri Jan 19 - 20 min walk in Oakland Cemetery this AM (was parked nearby)
A Snowy Oakland...

I've missed this cemetery...

Xmas decorations are still up...

Birdie tracks in the snow...

Snow around magnolia trees... (in general, not in this pic)

Palm trees planted in front of this mausoleum...I had to laugh. I am in the south. There are palm trees here...surrounded by snow... (not in this pic)

Pretty flowers carved into stone...

Sat Jan 20 - 1 hour 15 min walk around neighborhood with friend, no pix
Sun Jan 21 - really only 10 min dancing to Pandora/twisterboard...

total this week: 2 hr 15 min

Mon Jan 22 - 1 hr 35 min walk around the neighborhood - it was longer but I was stopping at crosswalks and stopping to take pix and look at stones in the cemetery.
LOTS of pix...
People have planted their violas and johnny jump ups already...

The chickens are still there...Blondie is missing, though...only 4 now...

Fellow walking his young brindle doggie...

The big cool house on the corner is being rennovated! Love to see that someone is going to live there...

Cafe on corner has their violas planted as well...

A palm tree!!! Aggghhh! JK.

Creeping phlox? not sure, groundcover hanging over the sidewalk/yard wall...

Squirrel!!!

Cactus!! Agggghhh!!! Sort of JK....

Along the Oakland Cemetery Wall...

An open sitting area with very old little stone markers...

Winter at Oakland Cemetery...

Beautiful old headstones...

Detail.... beautifully carved...

Little house/booth for employees/volunteers...it has heat and AC...

Fern detail on stone - must be a child's grave from the size of the "bed"...

People still decorate graves - I did not keep up the tradition that my grandmother was faithful doing - I wish I'd been more sensitive to it, since it was important to her...

Angel pointing to heaven...

More pansies!

Wintery Park...

Camelias attempting to bloom...

Tues Jan 23 - 1 hour evening walk around neighborhood
Love the "gas light" look lamps...

Pretty lit up fountain in the park...

Beautiful upper level stained glass window...

Grand house with porch for entertaining...

Love the winter tree shadows on the sidewalks...

Wed Jan 24
- 30 min walk around neighborhood w/friend.
The only pics I got were a friendly kitty who came to greet us on our walk...

Thu Jan 25 Burns Night! - 1 hr 30 min + walk around neighborhood and in Oakland Cemetery, more but stopping to take pix and went and had breakfast at a very popular diner in the area...
Wintery day in the park...

Beautiful fountain detail...

There was a bad storm here last fall, I think - a tree fell on this poor house...a big branch came down on my friends house, too - the guy is here working on the roof as I am typing... her back deck has been repaired already. Last night we passed 3 houses affected by a big tree coming down on all of them from the same storm...

Winter planting at a nearby restaurant...

Daffodils are popping up already here...

Grand monument with Egyptian carving - It may be the only one with that association - I hadn't seen any others like it...

I've taken this pic last time I was here too, a very popular mausoleum...his family must have really wanted him to be able to see everything - ! His name is Jasper, and I have to go back to read the rest of it... that is probably an exact replica of his favorite chair, I am guessing...

Intricate fringed ribbon detailing on these mausoleum doors...

The mausoleum they belong to...

As I was trying to take this pic, my phone (new and fully charged, my friend upgraded so I got her old one...) went completely black - battery drained. I didn't think I got this pic - but I see I did - it took a little while to get the phone to turn back on but battery was very low... I was guessing "someone" didn't want me taking pics of something - I found this very old headstone interesting because it had been repaired/put back together in many places and you can't read it, but the carving of the willow is still visible...Jasper's mausoleum in background...

Very beautiful monument for a mother and daughter, two angels...

Pretty camelia attempting to bloom, stunted by the storm last week...

5 min of Twister Board today - was easier - put on dance music...

Fri Jan 26 - 8 min of Twister board to dance music...
and then 10 min dancing to my friends dance music while she got on the board...

I've Had Friends
20 min walk around neighborhood tonight, too dark for pics tonight...

Sat Jan 27 - 6 min dancing to Pandora dance station while my friend was on the Twister board...

Dried flowerhead/weed along the Park...

Bird's nest up in a tree...

Pretty poinsettias still blooming nicely...

Full moon hanging over the Oakland Cemetery...

Decorative Scroll Design stones amidst ivy and violas...

I was so excited to see the Hellebore...I love them...

Beautiful camelia hiding her face behind a leaf fan...

There she is! I moved the leaf....

Sunset glow light on camelia...

The sunlight caught on these thin curved branches, making it look like golden threads...

Tues Jan 30 - 8 min Twister Board and 22 min low impact dancing to Pandora Dance Station

Shake It Off
Wed Jan 31 - 8 min Twister Board to dance music
30 min walking this AM taking the scenic route (read: lost) from a parking garage to destination and back at temp agency downtown in a nearby suburb ...a kind Marriott employee with a golf cart gallantly drove me over to the parking garage when I was seriously lost trying to find it again - he knew which one it was.
Flowers planted in a park in the center of the chaos they call downtown...

Close up of the pretty pansies...

Thu Feb 1 - 1 hr 35 min walk around neighborhood and cemetery
Pretty camelias...they are so perfect but have no smell at all....

Decorative Mausoleum doors at Oakland Cemetery..

The Mausoleum they belong to...

More decorative doors...

Iron fencing, with detail on the corner posts...

An upper piece of a Mausoleum with a coat of arms that never got put up...or maybe it fell off...

Plot has it's own fencing...

Very old headstone with angel on front...

Pussy willow!!!

Make-shift trellis from cast iron pipe, it's been a long time since anyone tended the plants growing up it...

The back side of the cast iron trellis and bench...

Curly-leaved ivy growing at the base of a stone....

Tiny rose attempting to bloom...

The first crocus I'd seen...!

Daffodils getting ready to open...

Unusual stone with an eye symbol...makes me wonder if he was a Freemason - here is a note about this symbol mentioning The Independent Order of Odd Fellows:
https://cemeteries.wordpress.com/category/odd-fellows/

Decorative corners on this grand monument...

I thought this was witch hazel...

Blossoms! Not sure what kind they are but beautiful!

Fri Feb 2 (Groundhog Day!) - 7 min Twister Board

Hi Kat, Such gorgeous homes, neighborhoods and statues!
The palms surrounded by snow are the ones I'm planting next. I think they're Windmill palms, they don't freeze. Replacing my two Queen Anne Palms that I got tricked into buying even though I thought they might freeze but everyone has been planting them.... Well I was right. Grew them from 2 feet high to 20 and lost one last winter and the other this winter.
That neighborhood is unbelievable, like living in the old days, Love it!

Thanks Meme! It's truly beautiful here in this neighborhood. Oh, so sorry you lost your
Queen Anne palms! Wow, to watch them grow like that - and lose them... again, so sorry. I like that style, the ones in the pics - they are pretty and provide a lot of shade.
Oh the cannons in the Park - they are real - it really gives pause to think about the days when they were in use - history is everywhere here.
