Trolls = live under the bridge
Yoopers = live in the UP
Fudgies = tourists, mainly in search of fudge :-)

thus, a troll can fudge up to see the yoopers, where they will call him a fudgie troll

I guess that makes me a reformed fudgie troll? I have only been a full-time yooper for about 2 months...maybe I need more tenure before I am a true yooper.

If you've only been a Yooper for 2 months, you're still considered a troll, since many fudgies stay that long on vacation. I think you have to make it through winter, and black fly season (the 2 seasons) in order to call yourself a yooper, eh?

We just lived in SE Michigan (Ottawa Lake) while working in Toledo for the past year, but before that we lived in SE Ohio, and I am originally from West Virginia. Quite a progression, eh? My husband has loved the UP ever since he began snowmobiling there over 10 years ago! We are both still having to work outside the UP since good jobs are pretty scarce there. But we both love it up there and love living rurally, so we are trying to make it work.

Snowmobiling!

My friend Tim at work said yesterday, "it's only seven more months until the trails open in the UP!"

LOL!

My husband used to "count down" the days until snowmobiling, too. I have encouraged him to enjoy the summers & not count his life away! Now we focus on going hiking, boating, etc. in the summer...not just waiting for time to hit the trails. He is definitely a hard core snowmobiler.
