Default Arthritis Meloxicam

Been struggling with painful hip and tail bone recently. Went on Meloxicam 15mg although not taking it every day. It makes a big difference to me getting about. My weight this past year has either been steady or slowly reducing. Now I am up two and half pounds, in just over two weeks. Whilst it's not massive I just wondered if any of you were on this drug and how it affected weight. I was moving around slower prior to going on the drug and weight didn't rise so I don't think it's that. I am actually more active now and definitely not eating more as I weigh and count calories and carbs, which by the way is how I have managed to lose weight in the first place. Any experience of this drug much appreciated.

Meloxicam is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti inflammatory drug) .. they're notorious for causing weight gain due to fluid retention. Thankfully it's temporary and will eventually go away when you're off the drug. In this case, it's clear that that the benefit of pain relief for you far outweighs (ha! pun) the side effect. There's an old thread with some good information here .. NSAID's and fluid retention, weight gain ..

Hope you're feeling better soon

Thank you Doreen that is just the kind of response I was looking for. I knew I wasn't eating any more than my (alloted) amount .
Read the link and it more or less confirms what I was wondering. I have been very busy this last few days so have been taking them daily. From today I hope things will quieten down so I will try to manage without. Will also have a discussion with Doc. This truly is a helpful forum.
