Default Free Foods

OK guys, I have read the book (several times) but still have a question on the free foods during the induction period. Is he saying you can have as much of these as you want, or do you still have to count the carbs? Example: Celery is listed as free, but has 4 carbs per cup. (who measures celery by the cup anyway?) Eggs are also listed as free, but are 1.2 carb for 2 of them. I have been counting the carb to total my 20 but if I don't have to count the free foods, then I could have a few more veggies which I really love.

One more thing, on FitDay, is there anywhere to add the multi-vitamin so that the nutritional chart is more accurate?

Thanks guys
Mary Ann

I think there are two ways to follow induction.

The first, is to do it as outlined exactly in DANDR and use the portion sizes given. The second is to actually and accurately count the carbs of everything you eat which allows you a lot more leeway in the vegetable department.

Counting carbs is a new and difficult thing for most people and Atkins has provided the guidelines to make it simpler while you are learning. But there is no reason not to go whole hog and start couning carbs right from the start while keeping them under 20 grams. Remember to deduct fiber grams from the actual carb count!

Thanks Karen,
I was counting the carbs and staying under 20, but I wasn't counting the fiber grams. As I take it from other threads if something has 6 gm carbs and 4 gm fiber I only count 2 gms of carb. Is that right or am I wrong?
Thanks again,
Mary Ann

As a rule of thumb, I always subtract the fiber from my carb count, as it is not digestible (insoluble).
