Thumbs up Great success - read my suggestions

Hi everyone, greetings from New Zealand,
I gave up smoking 37 days ago after sarting at age 12 (I'm now 43 but did stop for 6 years when my son was small).
My good friend and I have both stopped after reading Allan carr's book "How to stop smoking the easy way" and I'm now reading his latest book which is much more detailed.
This guy is great and what he says makes so much sense. The last time I gave up I had to stay away from smokers, bars, coffee and I took up eating (put on 4 stone, ie 56lb). This time I just don't want to smoke - no patches, gum, overeating, just pure relief. No withdrawal symptoms, no feeling sick or coming down with viruses, just happiness at being free of the nictine monster. I've been to parties and bars, had coffee with friends and no problems.
I recommend reading the book, even if it just gets you thinking.
Good Luck

Hi Linda:

Can you please comment more on the way how you quited smoking?

It would be really appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Becky
Allan Carr is British, but his books have sold millions worldwide - you could maybe try Amazon?
Anyway, he really just points out the obvious stuff that all smokers know eg how desperate we get if we run out of cigarettes etc and points out why this happens. His advice is very sound and practical. I couldn't really do him justice by trying to explain, but it has certainly worked for me. I figure I'll save NZ$5000 a year - that's about US$3000!
PS I never thought my friend Jo would stop - she's smoked for about 23 years non-stop, but she's managing really well.
Linda

Glad to hear that Carr's book worked for you. I read it a couple of times in the last few years, smoking as I read it and after, LOL. Guess it works for some people.

One month, one week, four days, 11 hours, 14 minutes and 21 seconds. 1698 cigarettes not smoked, saving $191.11.

I'm 1 year smoke free this month thanks to Allan Carr.

It really is the easiest way to quit. No, to become a non-smoker.

Talking I read the book too !

I've been smokefree since April 17th - after smoking 20 a day for more than 25 years. I read Carr's book, took my last siggie and have never even wanted it since. Of the 10 at work who read the book, 7 of us are still nonsmokers. I guess it's right that it's not for everybody. For me it changed my way of thinking, - and I also gained 20 lbs. Most of it's gone now, but if I can quit smoking, I can also get to my goal weight. Still some way to go !

Oh, ... I bought by book at www.amazon.co.uk

I'm another Allen Carr convert, approaching two years since I stopped smoking.

I recommend it to anyone who's thinking about stopping smoking. And the books a heck of a lot cheaper than cigarettes or patches

Chalk up another one for Carr's book LOL. According to www.quitmeter.com: 1 week, 1 day, 9 hours, 33 minutes, 51 seconds since my last smoke

I got my book at our local Barnes & Noble, but a person can also order it from Allen Carr Barnes & Noble.

I went to the Barnes & Noble and Amazon.co.UK(Carr) sites to read reviews on the book before I got it. I'm skeptical by nature but both sites had a fair number of good reviews... like over 100 on B&N and over 200 on Amazon UK.
