Question Lower blood pressure?

I know that not everyone has lower blood pressure when they lose weight -- there are other factors apparently. I read somewhere that it's about 50%.

I have been on 50mg of losartan for many years due to my high blood pressure. Today I took my BP and the systolic number (upper #) was 90 in one arm and 86 in the other -- that's very low for me -- I used to be near 140 pretty regularly.

Is this due to weight loss? I've lost nearly 40 pounds, but I could still use another 60-80 lost, so it's not like I'm anywhere near normal weight.

I'll keep monitoring as it would be awesome if I could get off the BP meds -- I've already dumped the statins.

I have another thread where I couldn't get the nurses to read my BP -- I wonder if this is related to that problem? But then they decided it was 140 over 90 -- but that was an iffy reading.

Just curious what's happening with everybody else and their blood pressure.

PS: I should add that this could just be a "phase," as my body has a bad habit of adapting to whatever I do.

There are reasons a Low Carb diet can lower blood pressure other than the weight loss. High insulin levels itself, resulting in metabolic syndrome, can increase BP. So decrease BG and insulin, often BP drops quickly and you should lower or eliminate the medication as needed.

This is a great article: http://www.dietdoctor.com/blood-pressure

Note: "To summarize, the following are approximate limits for the levels of blood pressure at which medication becomes appropriate:

Otherwise healthy individuals: Over 160/100
Diabetics/people with heart disease: Over 140/90
With that said, smaller elevations in blood pressure could be suggestive of a need of some lifestyle changes in order to improve health and decrease the risk of diseases."

So being "near 140" was not a reason for medication, and not at all with recent readings. Phone your doctor's office to ask about reducing/eliminating dose.

Dr Yancy and Westman both worked on a study about low carb that showed benefits for blood pressure.

LC alone lowers BP for many of us.

My BP went from 140/90 to 90/60 consistently. I ended up on a very low dose of Metoprolol for something else after that, which was a little scary but turned out okay. My BP is starting to normalize again.
