I can't eat coconut flour either. Makes me feel sick and then I poop my guts out. But I have that problem with anything coconut (oil, butter, milk). The only thing I seem to be ok with is the extremely small amount of shredded coconut in my dark chocolate. Sometimes I can drink about a 1/2 cup of coconut milk and I'm ok but other times it's too much.

Coconut flour is basically fiber; I've become very fiber sensitive since going gluten free and healing my digestive system.

Flax hits me the same way.

After reading something in Dr. Davis' blog about probiotics, I've started taking them in a more meaningful dose, for a longer period. I think my gut is vastly improved and is handling fiber better now. I'm testing that theory with pumpkin seeds. Usually seeds send me rushing to the loo, but so far so good and I'm on day 3 of this experiment.

Next on the list to try is certain raw veggies.

http://www.wheatbellyblog.com/2013/...at-elimination/

He recommends 50 billion beasties a day. I don't know what strength I'd taken in the past, but I doubt it was anywhere near that. So I went to Swanson Vitamins and bought some with about 5b, still not enough but I'm taking 4 a day.

I just checked again and they have some with 60b, so I'll move onto those next.

His article recommends two brands, but I think I will try these next time I order.

I'm excited because supplements NEVER seem to do anything for me, so to have something actually help me makes me quite happy.

Default Why Paleo on the Atkins forum.

I am not being critical, just curious. Shouldn't there a Paleo site instead of reference in the Atkins, or is there? To me, as a newby, I get confused with the mention about other diets and their requirements.
Also I have a question, is there a search capacity on this site? I would so like to access the recipes that are mentioned as being in another person's notes.
Anyway thanks to all forthe ideas, recipes, etc...

[B]OOPS,I MADE A BIG MISTAKE. I AM ON THE PALEO SITE. BY MISTAKE. FORGIVE ME!

LOL! No problem, YvonneH. Live and learn.

At the top of the screen is a green ribbon with the word "Search" on it. Click that, then select "Advanced Search" and use the Google search. That's the best way to search this site.

Or optionally, you can do a google search like this:

Keywords site:lowcarber.org

That will limit it to this site.

I don't recommend using the default search, it is terrible.

I am. Before the probiotics it would give me the urgent urge to head to the bathroom. Now it just makes things move better.

Also, an update on the probiotics, they were messing me up big time! I was getting a severe backache at night. The pain was waking me up and sometimes I'd have to cut my time in bed short and get up.

I finally realized the back issue started at the same time I started the probiotics. So I stopped them and the backache began to go away. Then, foolishly, I decided to switch probiotics to a stronger brand, and it returned with a vengeance.

They are also making me constipated. So I've gone from IBS-D to IBS-C. Lovely! And I have bottles and bottles of probiotics I can't take.

I've tried to make my own coconut flour recently (here are some recipes with coconut flour where I used it) and it turned out very gritty. And even though I like coconuts and coconut milk for example, to me coconut flour doesn't taste even remotely similar to coconut.

I'm not sure what greety means (gritty?), but authentic coconut flour is pretty good stuff. You should try it from a pre-ground source. It isn't gritty at all, has a very fine texture, and doesn't really taste much like coconut.

I can tolerate organic coconut chips really well, but not exactly the same thing that is non-organic. The difference is the stuff they add to the second one (normal practice). I forget what it's called, but it definitely makes a HUGE difference in how I .. er .. "digest" it. If you're buying non-organic coconut flour it is most probably in that.
