i was stunned when i bought a pack of "smart beat" spread which has in HUGE bold letters "no trans fats" yet the 3rd ingredient is partially hydrogenated. So yes it has under a gram but thats per serving, and i think its a shame that a company that calls itself smart beat can do something like that

Unhappy HELP! - Atkins Advatage Question

Can someone please explain the Atkins Advantage bars nutritional facts.
I had bought one of the Chocolate Peanut Butter bars
On the label it says Net Grams 2g
But when you go through the nutritional facts it reads like this.

Protein 19g
Total Carbohydrate 22g
Dietary Fibre 10g
Sugar Alcohol 0g

According to my math using the standard formula
Total carbs - Dietary Fibre = Net Grams
22 - 10 = 12 grams net carbs

How the heck to they get 2g net carbs?

Is there something I am not seeing.
I included a link to the nutritional facts for the bar.

Glycerine is used in this product and is a non-effective carb, so they delete that from the total too.

Read this article. It explains it all:
http://www.atkins.com/company/press...hterm=glycerine

Hope this helps.

I started reading this post from the beginning. I see that it was started in '04. Most of the low carb stuff folks are mentioning is gone from the shelves in my stores! I guess they got the message that we won't settle for "icky" just because we found a better way to eat! I don't eat any sugar free candy anymore since it hurts my stomach really bad, and I don't keep sugar free low carb ice cream in the house because some of it tastes so good, I don't want the temptation around. I do keep a bar of 85% Lindt around for those terrible chocolate cravings though. No stomach problems, and it is so rich that only one or two squares satisfies any cravings I get.

The Apple Crisp Morning bars are have too much sweet on the outside (like licking a splenda package) but the stuff on the inside is good. Gotta scrape the crap off.

Now the coconut endulge and the carmel cookie bars are delicious and sinful.

I like the Carb Solutions shakes that come pre-mixed--just open and drink. I cannot drink Atkins and many others because of the Vitamin K in them, which counteracts with one of the medications I am on. Does anyone know where to find these? They are no longer available in any of the stores in my area, and I can only find the powdered drink mix online.

I tried Smucker's sugar-free chocolate syrup. I needed an ice cream fix and bought Breyer's LC Vanilla. It tastes a little like cough syrup because of the vanilla. ANYWAY, as usual, sguar-free chocolate products end up tasting bitter and "artificial" although I can't really describe it any better. It's not terribly palatable...AND I couldn't get the top off to pull off the seal so I had to make a puncture in it through the squeeze hole. Don't waste your money - I tossed a nearly full bottle. Cheers!

Default Smucker's Sugar-Free Chocolate Syrup

Thank you soooo much for the warning on the Smucker's Chocolate Syrup!

I have often passed this in the grocery store, and been tempted to try it out. The low price being tempting, but the carb count and crappy ingredients (high sugar alcohols, corn starch) helping to keep me at bay.

I will stick with my Walden Farms Chocolate Syrup! Nothing beats 'Zero' across the board!

I don't know if you have Safeway Grocery Stores in your state, but they actually make their own brand of low-carb ice cream... and it is really good! Now it does have some ingredients in it that are not so good, but sometimes you just need a little treat.

Dreyers "Slow Churned-No Sugar Added" Ice Creams are VERY good! They are a little higher in Net Carbs; most of the 11 flavors (yes, ELEVEN flavors ) are 6 or 7 net carbs per 1/2 cup. The highest count is the Butter Pecan at 9net, no doubt due to the pecans.

And with all the flavors, you won't even miss your chocolate syrup.

They are all very low in sugar alcohols, using mostly Glycerine and Splenda.

The Cookies 'N Cream does have Partially Hydrogenated Oils in it, but the rest are clear; and most are gluten free as well, if you are sensitive.

Now that the whole Atkins craze has slowed down, it's hard to avoid all the trans fats low carb items.

Default Rich Deep Chocolate Taste- Revival Soy Chocolate Dream Unsweetenedr

This supplement powder has 2.5g fat, 20g of protein, 7g carbs (2 fiber, 1 g sugar). You can add it to rice milk, soy milk, or regular milk - whatever - or just add it to water, which I do.

Add whatever sweetener you can tolerate. I use Stevia, the same amount as sweetens my pretend-coffee. The chocolate taste is dreamy, as the product name "Chocolate Daydream" suggests.

As much as anything is, it's IBS-safe. I get it online.

there's not much left out there. i loved the Atkins RTD shakes and never had a probem with stalling. I just bought a 4 pack of the Mocha in the new packaging. Didn;t notice it also said "Great New Taste." I spit it in the sink and took them back to the market. Disgusting. I am so disappointed as I hate breakfast and these were the only thing I could stomach. Don't like the EAS either. Any ideas? Can't do eggs/bacon or any food really otherthan cereal and well, that's out.
