Default Karen, please promote your new book!!!

Karen,

I'm on this website on and off, and I must tell you, I keep coming back because your Karen's corner is full of the most creative, delicious low carb recipes I have ever come across.

Maybe I missed the the thread, but Karen, why aren't you promoting your new low carb book that's coming out?

While doing a low carb cookbook search (I collect 'em all), I noticed you have a new low carb gourmet cookbook out this month! I pre-ordered it!

I love your recipes and creative ideas about food. Can't wait until that cookbook arrives! Karen, please promote it so others know it's coming!

Hi joycelyn! Thanks so much for the high compliments!

I haven't been promoting it because it won't be out till fall of 2004. It went from being published by a local publisher to being sold to Rodale Press which is a pretty big deal. Harper Collins has the rights for it in Canada.

The book will have 50 colour pictures and 350 recipes Twenty or so recipes are from our fabulous, long time members and moderators and the wonderful Doreen T has written on low-carbing basics and sweeteners. Colin has written an excellent piece on fats.

The manuscript went off last week, and it will come back full of editorial red squiggles.

When it is closer to being published, you'll hear much more about it!

Karen

Are we talking about the title The Best of Karen Barnaby? That's the one I see pending on Amazon. Is it low carb?

Nope! That's a compilation of all my favourite recipes from my previous HIGH CARB cookbooks.

There's a sneak preview of the cover of The Low Carb Gourmet here

MY ISP Rogers Cable has a tidbit about Karen in its family recipe section.

Way cool Karen.

Default The Passionate Cook

Sorry if there's already a thread on here about this, but I haven't noticed it. Just wanted to mention that Karen's latest cookbook was launched just a few weeks ago. The Passionate Cook isn't low-carb per se, but it has many low-carb recipes and others that are, um, low-carb-able (?).

Here's a sample recipe from her publisher's website: Tea-Scented Fresh Goat Cheese

It's a beautiful book and embodies Karen's creative and philosophical approach to food, using fresh and local ingredients and incorporating techniques and tastes from around the world. I highly recommend it! So far I've just been reading it (something I tend to do more often than actually cook) -- but it does make for great reading, and I'm sure it inspires my day-to-day cooking and also gets me thinking about the next dinner party.

Karen, how would you feel about a thread where people can generate and share carb counts for some of the more low-carb recipes, and also talk about adapting recipes? I for one would love to try that Sweet and Sour Dipping Sauce but can't figure out how to make a syrup with Splenda!

Oh, you're being too kind!

I have no objection to the thread you describe. The fish, meat and vegetable section are full of recipes that are low carb by nature. Tee goat cheese recipe you linked to is a great LC recipe. You can do the same thing using coarsely ground coffee beans instead of tea.

To make the dipping sauce, add xanthan gum to thicken it.

AHA! I'm going to start annotating my copy of the book right now. Can't bring myself to write in it yet (will wait till I spill something on it, which won't be long, I'm sure ). Will try to get over my fear of starting new threads and, well, start a new thread.
