CarbsB - I have to admit I laughed at that!!!! And now I'm singing it in my head! And really, who cares about jelly?! LOL!
How are you enjoying your new bike? Where have you been riding? When I lived in Denver I rode the Cherry Creek Trail (I think that's what it was called) a lot. It was a great trail for days I couldn't get out of town to ride in the mountains. And it ran right by my apartment complex. Very convenient. I also road out at Cherry Creek Resevoir for some local off pavement trail riding.
Hope you're enjoying it!

vwgal and welcome to the challenge!!!! Don't ever divulge the food you crave the most - you might end up with dancing peanuts haunting you! LOL!

Cheers,
Gypsy

Lessara:

For cardio I try to spend 1 hour on the treadmill. I started out at about 2.5 mph and now I'm up to 4.6ish, but that was 3 weeks ago, before the Forces Of Evil conspired against me and made me quit working out. Sunday or monday it's back to the grind for me !!

Jeff, who's off to make some chicken and have some peanut butter to hold him over til the chicken is done !!

Hey Gypsy. I'm loving the bike - feel like a kid again - just wish my muscles did! I've been riding some of the beginner trails around Jefferson County close to where I live. Today I actually did a bike path because all the trails are still very mooshy - didn't want to get the bike all dirty! Actually, I didn't want to sink into the muck and have to call a tow truck to extricate my mountain bike!

There is a Cherry Creek trail, also the Highline Canal trail is very popular. I'll have to check out Cherry Creek State Park once I get a vehicle mount for the bike. Until then, I'll just stay on the trails/paths close to me. Either way it's a great workout. I also purchased a heart-rate monitor/cyclocomputer (to make sure my ticker doesn't explode) so I can track my progress. Rode a little over 3 miles today. If you're really feeling masochistic, there's a picture of me in spandex in my profile!

Hi Jeff, thanks for letting me know. When I saw you making chicken and peanut butter all I could think of was: Oh yummy Curry!

Gypsy & Carbsbegone: I have this awesome mountain bike but I'm such a wimp it hurts so much to ride but I want to so bad because there are trails all around the lake near by and it would love to trail ride like I did when I was a kid. I'm hoping by walking during my lunch break that I'll tame these whimpy muscles on my legs

My roommate who is low carbing got quite a chuckle out of the peanut butter and jelly stuff. He just got some low carb jelly this past week! He's been missing his pp & j!!

I'm going for a walk in a few minutes, maybe I can grab my son to go with me... See you all soon!

Carbs-I totally cracked up at Peanut butter jelly time! My favorite has to be the Freaky dance. Porn star was pretty twisted, though.

Did 20 minutes yesterday of a lower body workout.

Iris-go to the main forum page and scroll all the way down. You should see a link to a chat room there.

Hey Iris - glad you joined us here in the crazy room!

Lessara - the 4 keys I've found to enjoy mountain biking: #1 is to make sure your bike fits you! There are numerous pages on the 'net about bike fit (saddle height, position, frame size, etc.) or you can have a good bike shop help you out. When I purchased my bike, I spent about an hour at the bike shop having everything tweaked for me - it really helps. #2start slowly, get your body used to riding. My first few times out with the new bike I only rode 15-20 minutes. Now I'm up to about an hour and feel great. #3 is to stretch your legs, arms and back before (and after too!) your ride. #4 is to get some good, padded cycling shorts. If you don't want to wear lycra, you can get padded liners to turn any clothing into "bike clothing." Beginning with those 3 things will really help keep your comfortable.

I still experience some slight soreness after riding - everyone does, it's part of cycling - but it's managable and the exercise benefits are awesome! Let me know if you want any more information, I've been doing my research...

CarbsB: I'm glad you're enjoying the biking. Colorado is so beautiful and by biking you really get to enjoy the scenery and area. I haven't found many places to ride around here. The roads are narrow, hilly and windy so not good for biking. I have to investigate the area parks a little better to see if I can find some mid level trails. I've found some high level mountain trails but I'm not in the shape for that. Maybe next summer!!!
And I think that's a great picture - you're looking quite sporty!!! Spandex and all! I run as fast as I can from anything spandex!!!!!
Next time I'm out in CO we should hit the trails for a ride.

Lessara: Follow Carbs' advice - he did a ton of research before buying his bike. The bike fit is super super important. Since you already have a bike just make sure the adjustments are good for you. Any decent bike shop can work on that with you. I ride a Raleigh M50 mountain bike and I just love it. It is actually a men's bike but with the proper adjustment I find it better for me than the ladies bikes I tried out. It may be because I started mountain biking on a male friends old bike so got used to that style.
As far as being sore - There are some aches that you just have to deal with - nothing major - and the leg soreness will ease up as you build the muscles involved. As far as butt aches - that was a big problem for me with the men's bike - invest in a really good gel seat cover. The best thing I ever bought!!!! I haven't tried the padded shorts - just the thought of me in padded shorts is scary enough!!! LOL!!!
Also - the more you ride the less aching you have.

Ok - I'm off to my Grandmom's - I'll hit the treadmill when I return this evening.

Have a good Sunday everyone!!!!

Cheers,
Gypsy

Hi Gypsy and Carbsbegone - I have a Univea 305 Rover (I just wrote down the names I saw on my bike )
I did get fitted at a bike store two years ago. You see, the bike originally belonged to my roommate and two years ago I lost my liscense (long story) and he broke the peddles off his bike. So I traded my car to him (Someone had to drive) and he gave me his bike. The bike store says is worth over $300. They gave me a seat that I needed to use and sized me up. I think what I really need is padded shorts. Now I just have to find some in my size!

Ah, biking...not to be here in Alberta, we just had a ton of snow over the past few days, so biking is out, maybe until next spring. In fact, even getting out for a walk is tough, the sidewalks aren't all clear and there's lots of ice underfoot. So it's to the dungeon where the treadmill and recumbent bike call out to me!

The dance party last night was a huge success, over 600 people there...if you like the blues or R&B, make sure you get to see Ellis Hooks if he comes to your city. He's out of New York City...band members are primarily from Nashville or New York. He brought the house down..the ladies were vying for his attention...oh, it was quite a scene.

Had lots of birthday wishes from people there that I know, so it was a great celebration. Then because I'm one of the organizers, I was included in the after-show get together with the band...and while I usually decline, I decided the birthday girl dare not go home early! So even though it was rather a quiet get together, I did roll home at 5:00 a.m. and felt I did the day justice.

Had a letter perfect Atkins day yesterday....ran around all night long doing some stuff at the party...danced a few times....loaded out the left over beverages and sound equipment....then stood at a party for a few hours.

I did drink one cooler (not low carb )...but was down .5 lbs this morning to 173. Will get in at least one 45 minutes of moving around today but I fear that will be it today....I'm gonna need some shut-eye before work tomorrow.

And yes, there were a ton of attractive men there...chatted with a few....but possibly a little too busy to spend enough time with anyone. Still a great time!

Have a great Sunday everyone...eat well...rest up...and drink that watta!

Ok, I'm a day late, but I'm starting this callenge at 190 lbs. Since I would like to be 175 by Xmas, I guess shooting for loosing 7 1/2 lbs would be good... so my goal is 182.5 LOL

gosh that sounds like miles away. Guess I better really get serious. *puts on her serious face*...

Did I just say "gosh"... I've been watching too much Shirley Temple again!

LOL, thanks. Believe me, I had some reservations about donning the spandex. When I realized just how important padded shorts are, however (helping to prevent numbness and other "issues," better comfort, etc.), it became less of a problem. I also read an article which made some great points on the subject; basically saying that while you may at first feel like everyone's staring at you and laughing, most people couldn't care less what you're wearing.

BTW, hitting the trails with you sounds like fun - let me know the next time you'll be in CO!

Lessara: Your Univega bike looks good (http://www.mtbreview.com/reviews/Bi...uct_24749.shtml). As for gear, I purchased most of mine from www.performancebike.com (they also have stores in some states). Excellent customer service, great prices and quality gear. Check out their own "Century" line of shorts (which should still be on sale). That's what I got; they're very comfortable and a good deal for the price. If you start buying a lot of gear, you can also join their "Team Performance" program and start earning back a percentage of what you spend.
