Saturday 14-Jan-12

No movement today, other than climbing the stairs to go the bathroom, or to get more kleenex. Cold is full blown. Taking the meds in hopes to encourage it to move quickly through me.

Just took a minute to read your journal.

You are doing amazingly well. Isnt it wonderful when you feel your body responding by getting stronger and more "your own"?

Hey, indie, thanks for stopping by!

I like that I'm getting stronger, even though sometimes that inertia of getting moving is still as strong as ever it was. But my body responds quickly to the exercise I give it, which kind of surprises me, in so far as I think I plan something challenging, I do it, and then have to reset my thinking about my own capability. It's cool and weird at the same time, if that makes sense. lol

Sunday 15-Jan-12

I expect to be a rest day. I am at the coughing stage of the cold, which is good in so far as the cold definitely moves through quickly this time around; but it's dangerous, as I can cough so strongly that I start retching. I'd like to avoid that.

I assume the gym is closed tomorrow for MLK day. I just re-read this whole journal, and go inspired to get do some lifting tomorrow, but with the cold and the holiday, it's probably smarter to wait.

I don't want to lift on the same days Dad does, which are Tu and Fri. So this week maybe I'll lift Wed and Sat. The other days, I can do my long-slow ET movements while Dad chats away.

I've also reversed my thinking (again) about when to do the sprints---I'm keeping them on the lifting days. I really liked that, and want to give it a fair chance before I decide it should change.

It's snowing. Black cloud moving in. No sun today.

Monday 16-Jan-12:
Another rest day. Gym was closed due to holiday, and I didn't walk due to my cold. The cough worsened, but it's moving through me.

Tuesday 17-Jan-12:
I actually went to the gym today. By the time I got there, I was exhausted from the drive over. I did not do anything at the gym. The cough continues to worsen. I wish it at least it would produce, but no, it just wracks me and makes me rush to the bathroom. Ugh, ready for this cold virus to be GONE.

Thursday 19-Jan-12:

SICK! so no movement other than stairs for potty/bedtime

Friday 20-Jan-12:

I climbed at least 10 flights of stairs today---I can account for that many trips to the bathroom.

Otherwise, I sat on my a$$ feeling like butt all day. The cold has moved through me pretty quickly, relatively, but today I had internal pain (abdominal region). The pain finally started to diminish shortly after I ate dinner.

A good night's sleep, and hopefully feeling back to normal tomorrow????? Please????? Pretty please????

Saturday 21-Jan-12: many trips upstairs to potty; may count them next time to see if they might add up to 15 minutes worth of stair-climbing! otherwise, nothing

Sunday 22-Jan-12: took a 45-minute walk outside today, which felt SO GOOD. I've actually missed it. My ankles/heels are a tad sore, but not as bad as a few weeks ago. Planning to go to the gym this week, but ease into it as to intensity. Still coughing if I talk too much. So I'm shutting up.

Monday 23-Jan-12:
Best laid plans of mice and girls, etc. (iow, no exercise)

Tuesday 24-Jan-12:
I did 30 minutes (THIRTY) on the elliptical trainer. I finally figured out how to use the preset programs, and how to adjust them. I get so bored up there, but if you cram a 30-minute program into 10 minutes, that's a lot more interesting. So I did 3 different programs today, each 10 minutes long. For 2 of them, I increased (maxed out) the resistance, so I could pretend I was hiking through deep mud. It was actually pretty fun.

THIRTY MINUTES!!!

Wednesday 25-Jan-12:
Took a walk outside for 45 minutes. The sun was full-on shining at the end!!

Thursday 26-Jan-12:
Went to the gym without Dad (less distraction for my lifting sessions, he's such a chatter). Here's what I did (will find the last one to compare some other time):
  • sprints on ET: round 1 = 4 x 15s sprint + 90s rest; round 2 = 2 x 30s sprint + 180s rest "in the mud"
  • leg lifts: round 1 = 70s; round 2 = 30 + 20 + 21 seconds
  • pushups (knees): round 1 = 9x; round 2 = 10x
  • chinups: round 1 = 6 x 160#; round 2 = 6 x 160#
  • pullups: round 2 = 6 x 160#; round 2 = 7 X 160#
  • toe raises: round 1 = 10x; round 2 = 10x
  • squats (all the way down): round 1 = 8x; round 2 = 8x
  • baker-analyzed: round 1 = 6 x 60#; round 2 = 3 x 70#
  • hauling: round 1 = 4 x 140#; round 2 = 4 x 150#
This time I actually made it through 2 cycles of my list of stuff. In fact, I felt pretty good when I finished, whereas last time I felt wiped out after 1 cycle. Although, last time I was coming down with a cold also, and this time I've had a good 10 days (is that right??) off.

Friday 27-Jan-12:

30 minutes on the ET at the gym again, doing 3 10-minute programs back-to-back. It was boring, though I had the mp3 player going. I miss my ET at home, could turn on an episode of Buffy and have at it while watching. Hopefully this summer I can get it back, although by then the weather will be so gorgeous that I'm planning most of my non-lifting activity to be outside in the SUN.

Saturday 28-Jan-12:
Rest day, other than umpteen trips up the stairs to the bathroom.

Sunday 29-Jan-12:

Walked for 45 minutes in the kind-of-sun. Very nice.

Monday 30-Jan-12:

Nothing other than potty trips up the stairs.

Tuesday 31-Jan-12:

Walked for 55 minutes over very hilly terrain. No sun, but it didn't rain either! Difficult day due to adjusting sleep schedule.

Friday 3-Feb-12
nothing except normal errands and potty

Saturday 4-Feb-12
same as Friday

Sunday 5-Feb-12
WALKED 60 minutes outside in SUN

It felt very good, although my left ankle is sore. I hope extra potassium takes care of it, as I'm planning on lifting tomorrow.
