I once spent some time weighing myself every time I went in the bathroom and marking it on a graph. Durn thing looked like a seismograph on ritalin! After a while the general trend showed me the truth, but in the mean time I learned that I can fluctuate several pounds in an hour. I once went out to my garage to move some boards around, and it was so hot that after about two hours I had sweated nearly 30 lbs. or 8% of my body weight. By the next day I had gained it all back plus a few. It took a week to even out. Don't do this at home, kids.
I gain almost a pound after a shower, just from absorbing water into my skin and hair.
If you are going to watch the scale, spend some time really watching it, before and after every meal, excursion, workout, bath or trip to the restroom. You will soon see that fluctuation is the rule, not the exception. I believe that if you don't vary at least 1% of your weight during the day, your scale is broken.
Not to mention that many scales can't accurately measure 1% of your weight.
