Default Pub Chain Launches Low-Carb Menu

Pub Chain Launches Low-Carb Menu

A PUB chain has became the latest company to join the Atkins diet craze sweeping the UK with the launch of a low-carbohydrate menu.

The high-protein diet, popular with celebrities and rapidly becoming a favourite with other slimmers, has prompted controversy after medical experts warned of its possible effects on long-term health.

But this has not stopped restaurants and sandwich bars offering their own Atkins-friendly range so as not to alienate the growing numbers of anti-carbohydrate dieters.

Now Yates's, which has 130 pubs around the UK, has launched its own Atkins-style menu, with meat, eggs and cheese a prominent feature.

It includes the Yates's Burger, which is chargrilled chicken breast covered in melted cheese, sandwiched between two 6oz beef burgers instead of a bread roll.

And the traditional English breakfast also makes an appearance, but with the toast, fried bread and baked beans sacrificed for an extra large portion of bacon and sausages.

Richard Gornall, Yates's head of food, said: "We are responding to increasing concern about obesity, and we think that consumers are increasingly concerned over their weight.''

Earlier this month Atkins Nutritionals launched a range of Atkins-friendly products for sale in health food shops in the UK, including chocolate bars and milkshakes.

Good isn't it? I'll definitely have a go at that Yate's Burger!

I don't know about the beer though - I don't drink!

That burger sounds huge, I'm not sure I could eat two burgers and a chicken burger all at the same time

Wonder whether they realise that sausage isn't low carb?

Still, lots of points for effort

Wetherspoons have low-carb beer - 2.5g per bottle - and it is £1.49 - tastes OK too!!!

Wetherspoons are also really really flexible with their menus, and very happy to substitute any side (eg chips) for salad .. (thanks Kelly UK for the tip) ... which is great with their 2 meals for £5.95 ... washed down with a couple of low-carb beers ... nice cheap treat!

Let me know of any developments!

The Yates burger sounds a bit of a meat monster! Would have Peter reaching for his Rennies!

I see there's one in Leicester Square Thanks doogieb I may try to persuade some friends that they really want to go to Yates rather than the usual pub one evening...
