Default High Cholesterol

I just my first blood work results back after starting Atkins. I'm 3lbs from my goal weight, but my total cholesterol was 287 and my bad cholesterol was 208 (normal 130). Has anyone else had this problem? I guess it's time to give up my daily breakfast of eggs and bacon. I do eat a lot of beef meat also. Thanks in advance for the help!

What's your good cholesterol and your triglycerides. My husband's cholesterol is around 300 but his triglycerides are low (good) and his HDL is high (good). He's not worried and he eats as much eggs and bacon as he likes.

Your bad cholesterol probably isn't really bad. You need to consider that 50% of the people having heart attacks have low "bad cholesterol", so it is a pretty poor indicator of any problem.

What tracks better are triglycerides and HDL. If your triglycerides are low, like below 100, then your LDL cholesterol is likely to be large and harmless. If your HDL is high, that also offers you protection.

I'd recommend that you look into an NMR cholesterol test which tells you whether or not you have the neutral sort of LDL (large) or the bad sort of LDL (small, dense particles).

And the best way to learn a lot about the uselessness of the current cholesterol/heart treatment is by reading Dr. Davis's blog, from start to finish. Also, read some of the other threads posted here, there's lots of info we keep posting and reposting.
