Default Strange Nutritional Advice

I was doing some browsing and came upon this fitness site thas has this nutritional advice.
Quote:
Like fuel for a car the energy we need has to be blended. The blend that we require is as follows:

  • 57% Carbohydrates (sugar, sweets, bread, cakes)
  • 30% Fats (dairy products, oil)
  • 13% Protein (eggs, milk, meat, poultry, fish)
I annot imagine any rational person recommending that 57% of your calories come from sugar, sweets, bread and cakes. This is from an alleged sports coach!

Mr. Brian Mackenzie would not be of the list of people I would want coaching from. I do wonder how he arrived at the 57% carb number. It seems rather strange. Also his 13% protein is low for even non-athletes.

Let me tell you, Dodger, the sports/physical conditionning world is very high on carbs....I work as a trainer, and the nonsense I hear from my colleagues and employers is sometimes exceedingly frustrating....

Shopgirl: LOL. Can you even imagine how a whole chocolate cake would feel about 2 miles into the marathon? Two mile? Heck, it would be bad at two steps! It makes my stomach hurt just to think about it.

Heh. I remember my first Danskin triathlon - Sally Edwards runs every Danskin. She always goes last so that nobody who is in the race has to be last. So, she sees what everybody has barfed on the route - she says, don't drink orange juice before the race!

Interesting that fruits and vegetables aren't even mentioned in that whoppin' 57% carbs. Pathetic.

Growing up, I was one of those kids where the parents wanted an Olympiad. So, I spent my entire childhood at the ice rink (figure skater). Everything I did, including my diet, was controlled by my coaches and yes, they are HUGE on carbs. I never got really thin but I was very muscular and they were always harping on me about my weight. They kept accusing me of sneaking food, which I wasn't. This is probably why you see so many serious athletes with EDs. The coaches are giving them nutrional advice, which is really bad advice, and then jumping all over them for not losing weight. They eschewed any type of fat and it was all about brown rice, potatoes, pasta, wheat bread, and other similar products. Bleh! If I knew then what I know now, what a difference that would have been.

As a child this was very stressful and I grew up thinking that I was very very fat when in reality I was quite thin with very very low body fat. I didn't even start menstruating until I stopped skating at around 16 years old...so obviously I wasn't fat. Those carbs are so darn evil.

In athletic training, they need the most concentrated, efficient carbohydrates there are. These are not the low glycemic, unprocessed, healthy ones... these are the unnatural, concentrated, quick sugar shot stuff: soda, cereal, all the stuff that gives regular people metabolic disease and obesity.
Because they are pushing their bodies to such extremes, they need a lot of fuel, and that comes best from simple starches and sugars.

To the average lady or guy riding a desk who's idea of exercise is a brisk walk with the dog, those foods are death (sugar surge goes... where? Nowhere, muscles full of glycogen, and energy needs do not require so much fuel... up goes insulin, get busy liver making fats, diabetes here we come!)
