Default Sugar alcohols on induction??

I hit a plateau and went back on induction.I've been strictly sticking to the plan, but after 11 days I haven't lost a bit! The only thing I know of that I'm doing differently is having SF hard candy. It supposedly has 0 net carbs but thats after subtracting sugar alcohol. Can SA cause trouble during induction?Has anyone else had experience with this?

Any of the fake foods can cause problems. Dr. A recommends keeping it natural as much as possible. Drop the candies and I bet you drop the pounds.

I had a 1 net carb protein bar yesterday, with sugar alcohol's and it through me out of ketosis when I checked this morning. I'm sure I'm back in now cause it was only 15 carbs anyway...but...that was the only thing I ate differently.

Sorry, I thought you had been eating them all along? Can you post a typical menu? Maybe someone can shed some light on the problem.

I cannot eat the sugar alcohols at all without counting the total carbs -- not just the net carbs. It will definately throw me out. My body reacts to the SA as if they were real carbs.

I wouldn't eat them at all during induction either.

Same here, It seems the Sugar Alcohols while they don't effect the blood sugar seem to be grabbed by the body to be burned for energy before they hit the fat.

I personally had to drop the candy that is made with Sugar Alcohols from my diet.

The answer lies in the experiment of YOU. Ditch the candy and see what happens.

However, don't forget that plateaus are common, and can last a horrendously long time. Yes, tweak your plan here and there...but most of all, be patient.

I WASN'T so patient, and gained back about half of what I'd lost before I got back on plan. I added major amounts of fiber to my diet (via flaxseed and wheat bran in a cereal) and that did the trick for me.

You kinda hafta work it out for yourself. But...sugar alcohols never help.

Best wishes.

I agree with some of the others and drop them for a while to see. How does your body react to them otherwise, specifically digestive issues? I've read that if you have nasty reactions, your body is not absorbing them but if you can tolerate them without the digestive issues, your body is absorbing them.

Thanks, for the responses. I'll ditch the hard candies and see how it goes.

Great plan.

I meant to say too -- there are some that are better than others and if you really want something sweet -- try the sugar free jello it only has 2 carbs and no sugar alcohol.

ok now I'm confused. It was my understanding that jello was free, meaning we did not have to count any of the carbs in it. It's protien right?? I've been eating it during induction and have never counted it. What's the true deal with this??

I count the carbs that are on the box. I bought the prepared Sugar Free Black Cherry Jello and counted the carbs.

I bought the sugar free jello (strawberry) today. It says 0 carbs, 0 sugar. Would this make it free on induction?

Free as in carbless - maybe?? I'm not sure if it has maltodextrin in it, which if it is counted in artificial sweetners, then it should probably be counted in other foods as well.

Or free as in "I can have a lot of it", I probably wouldn't. It's a nice "treat".

Ok, now I get it. I need to make sure I'm reading those labels and also as with anything, too much of anything is not a good thing. Thanks all for your posts.
