Default UGH!! my wedding band is too big!!!

My wedding band is too big and keeps falling off, I went back to Zales where we got the ring back in 2001. My ring has a design all the way around it, so the jeweler said it could not be resized. My ring is a size 13 when the guy measured my finger it is now a 9 and 1/2, (woohoo!!) that part was pretty cool, but we are trying to figure out what to do, my ring is obviously pretty important to me, I know I can just get a new one, but I guess I am just a sentimental kinda guy.

I wouldnt take a NO. Try a smaller mom & pop jeweler, I bet you'll have better luck there.

What about wearing it on a nice gold chain around your neck until you sort out what to do with it.

I have two suggestions.

First, don't have it officially resized until you're at your goal. Who knows what size your fingers will be then?

Second, there is a little metal insert they can put in rings that sizes them down. Find someone who can do that for you, and go ahead and explain that it is an intermediate step on your way to even smaller. I second the suggestion of finding a small local jeweler. They're usually more helpful.

They are correct, having that syle resized will cause them to have to slice the pattern, but I think it will be an important symbol of all the work you've done for yourself and your future.

Be careful. I kept not resizing mine and one day I moved my hand too quickly and the ring went flying off. By that point, I could wear the ring on my thumb. Fortunately mine is simple, a plain gold band, so I went ahead and resized it. If I have to do it again, I will.

Mine is not my original band. They couldn't size the original one up big enough for me and I bought a new one. I still can't fit into the original band, but I think one of the ways I'll know I'm at goal is that I will be able to wear it again.

I don't know why, but I don't feel that much sentimentality toward a particular ring. Maybe that is because my original band was just plain gold (no pattern) and so is the band I bought to replace it. If it were a particular design that might have more meaning to me. On the other hand, the marriage does have meaning to me even if the ring doesn't!

My husband's wedding ring was washed off his hand when he was swimming in the ocean. So...be careful!

You can take it to a jeweler and have them place beads of gold in the inside. Kind of like a speed bump. You shouldn't get a removable sizer because it will eventually where down the metal of your ring. Most of those sizers are stainless steel and can do a number on gold or platinum.

OR some places sell plastic sizers, but that would only be a temporary fix.

Mine is too big also and the ring can't be resized. I'm waiting until I reach my goal to have the diamond reset in a new band and having a bit of fun looking in stores & on the net in the meantime.

Could you have components used in making a new one?

I haven't wore my wedding rings in about 6 months. It aggravates the husband sooooo much!

If your current ring was resized would the flaw only show up on one part? ..like the part you wear on the underside of your hand. If it were only going to be a small imperfection I would go for it ( when you get to goal) Everytime you look at it you can be reminded of 2 things... how much you love your wife, and how far you have come to stay healthy and live longer with her!

The jewerly store may not want to do it becuz it wouldn't look perfect and if someone asked, oh where did you get that ring, you say Zales, and it might make them look bad. just a thought.

oh and here's another thought as far as sentiment goes...
maybe when you get to goal and need new rings all together you could plan a second wedding. That way it's not just some ring you picked up at the mall one day, it came with a ceremony and all the blessings from a wedding!

Exactly. That's all you need and it won't hurt the design of the original ring.

And congratulations on your weight loss!
