Default help I want to be thin!

Hi there fellow dieters,
I've been reading this sight for a few days now and the support you give one another is great. I've started low-carbing on January 1st and am finding it rather tough. I was always a firm believer in low fat diets but when I read the Atkins book it made perfect sense to me. All my life I have been very fitness oriented, i love working out I hate dieting and I hate being fat!!!!! I weighed myself this morning and am kind of disapointed that I have only lost 4 pounds, I know it's not bad but I guess I expected a greater loss. I was wondering if too much cheese is bad and I also drink small amounts of grapefruit juice (unsweetened) with hydrogen peroxide therapy, if you know anything about this you know how awful this stuff tastes so you need something strong to mask the taste. Also are the hamburg patties you buy frozen bad and what about cashews? Any advice or comments would be greatly accepted.
Thanks Brenda

The best advice for you is "Update your Profile with your new loss!!"

4 pounds is nothing to sneeze at (Welcome to the board by the way! - I'm in Ontario too and also on Atkins.!

I felt right about Atkins too - even the concept of eating fat! The first 2 weeks, I consumed 2 pounds of butter and lost 9 pounds. Says a lot about low fat dieting doesn't it?

I invite you to start a journal over in the journal section, it's a great way to keep track of your stats, intake, exercise etc etc, so that if you run into any difficulties we can jump in and plaster you will all kinds of support and pep talks

Hamburger patties are fine, so long as they haven't added any cereal to them. A great book to invest in is The Complete Book of Food Counts, by Corinne Netzer. Every food imaginable (even the ready made frozen varieties) are in her book, with all the nutritional counts.

Cashews are worth about 4-8 g carb per ounce, depending on the brand - so go easy on them. A handful of cashews can work out to be 1/2 your daily allowance of carbs!

Post often, no question is a stupid question

Hi, Brenda. Welcome! You really are off to a good start -- four pounds is terrific.

If you don't already have a book with carb counts, you might want to get one. Cheese does have very small amounts of carbs, so you'll want to count them. So does grapefruit juice -- even the most sour and unsweetened. (Not saying that eating either has put you over the top, just that it's important to keep track of what you're eating. Even green vegetables have carbs.)

Good luck on your low carb journey

I see U have recieved great advice so far and may I add watch labels closely. Some burger pattys have fillers and even sugar in them. Switch the cashews for almonds or macadamia nuts. And drink LOTS of water!!!! Good luck!
