Are you thinking of stopping your medication? I wouldn't recommend that.

I stopped taking mine for a few months last year. My endo said I needed them for low T3 and my general said I didn't need them as TSH is normal. So I stopped, about a month later my hair started falling out by the handful and continued for months until I had bald spots, I started gaining weight on lowcarb and I began having memory problems and heart palpitations. I started taking them again feel fine and won't do that again.

I hardly have any thyroid left, so there's no way I could stop taking mine.

Hello Nawchem...I stopped taking my pills for 3 weeks now...been having more headaches than usual..No hair loss. To be honest I feel better since I stopped taking them. I know if I ask the doc she would tell me not to do it..But I wanted to see if I would stop feeling dizzy all the time and not so tired..The dizziness is better and I have more energy in the mornings.

Thank you for your response..I will give it a lot of thought..

Anna

Anna, Have you seen the dr? The dizziness, fatigue and headaches don't sound good. Also are you taking potassium supplements, I had all those symptoms doing atkins and the potassium took care of it.

Hope you feel better.

I have been on Sythroid for 4 years now.....I would love not to be, but my thyroid is almost non existant, so I will continue to take them. I don't believe one should stop their medication without the consent of their doctor, but this is my opinion only.

Hi Anna ....If your tests said you needed a thyroxine replacement, it is not really reasonable to stop taking them. This particular hormone is absolutely essential for many aspects of your body's wellbeing--including mental health-- and it is hard to believe that we need such a minute amount--about the quantity which would cover the sharp end of a pin--but without it, among other things you would notice, would be the lack of mental sharpness. It could be, if you don't feel well, that you need a higher dose. Have you had a check recently..??
Of course, If you are taking too much med, that can be quite toxic...this is one condition not to fool around with unless it has been prescribed first.
Why not explore the subject via your search engine .... Eve
