Default Nut milk question

I miss my 2% milk! but am willing to drink nut milk. I plan to make my own as it seems super simple. And I can flavor it to my liking. But I do have a question.

Why do the nuts need to be raw? I do 90% of my shopping at wholesale clubs, and nut prices are better than regular stores, but they don't seem to have raw nuts.

Do they really have to be raw?

I've used pecans from Costco and they seemed fine but then I didn't use them to make milk.

Maybe they are referring to roasted and salted nuts.

I can't answer the "why" but yes, they do need to be raw. Tho raw is a bit of a misnomer. Most - if not all - nuts are dried and I think almonds are dried. Those are the ones you use - plain almonds, not roasted, salted, smoked, or flavored.

You should be able to find those at Costco. I know WalMart and any respectable grocery has them.
