Default Yeast overgrowth Treatment

I was recently diagnosed (by a doctor no less!) with yeast overgrowth. I had suspected the problem for a long time, since first reading Atkins book. Ironically, I had gone to the doc for gastro problems and had a series of tests run looking for some horrible disease and it came back that my system was exploding with yeast. Has anyone else gone through the medical and dietary treatment for this and if so, I would love to know how well it worked and if you were able to maintain results. I don't mind the LC diet plan anyway, but yeast diet is a little more restrictive.

Hi Steph0203,

I'm amazed that you were diagnosed with candida by a doc!! May I ask what tests the doc put you through to arrive at the diagnosis? I was under the impression that there was no good test for candida.

I have been struggling for some time to stay on a candida diet. Right now I am on Atkins induction but minus dairy...and I am doing well so far! The more I learn about candida the more motivated I get to stay on the diet!

Default Diet, docs etc

Hi Steph
Yes i agree, surprising you were actually diagnosed by a doctor. That's interesting.

As for being on diet, doctor recommendations, etc...i have tried this diet many times over 20 years. I am not a success story, but I also have not been able to stay on diet. I think i have finally realized, it is essential for wellness. SO my advice and insight would be....

1. Get on candida diet, and stick it out, be rigid.
2. Do your research and come/stay on forums like this to learn. BEST way to learn I find is from others suffering same thing.
3. Check out wholeapproach.com. good website
4. Get help with supplements and nutrition...

many people use the following types of things to help rebuild the gut and decrease candida

Probiotics
Garlic
Caprylic acid
Grape seed extract
a yeast fighter pill...candex, threelax, etc...candida cleanse
fiber
adding beneficial bacteria back into the system with acidophilis, etc,
I just started using oregano oil..and some other stuff...

I would say, keep asking and researching. You will find a lot of cool recipes that help make this not so hard...

be positive...and hopeful..and know that others care..and wish for your success...

best of luck

YES.....WHAT DOCTOR DID YOU SEE????? Where do you live?! I'm packing my bags right now to see this doc?!

Seriously.....all good advice above. Read your brains out. Some days my brain is simply more numb than it usually is!!! I'm finding wholeapprach.com to be very helpful as well.

The secret is food choices.......learning waht you can and can not eat and having different recipes. That is why I've been failing. Not enough choices. BUT I'm looking and researching and trying new foods and I keep at it. There is no other alternative.

The die off will be hard at first. I recommend to anyone on here......get yourself one of those vacuum package food thingies. Make extra food and vaccum seal it and freeze it for the days you feel not so great you have food ready. Because everything you eat has to be prepared. Unless you are going to just go to town on a cucmber, then for that you do not need the vacuum sealer.

I live in Utah and my doc performed a myriad of blood tests first, then finally a stool sample and some kind of parasite and fungus test. I honestly don't know the specifics right now, but am just darn glad she found out what the heck has been going on. I just completed a regimen of antifungals (diflucan). thanks for all the advice. I will keep plugging away at this new way of eating. I am feeling better.

Remember that it takes time to get over a yeast overgrowth. Keep it up...especially if you are feeling better. Let this doctor keep conducting the tests she needs to make sure all of the yeast is gone before you transfer back into a normal way of eating. I plan to adapt a lot of my candida free ways of eating for the futute to maintain a healthy gut after I complete fighting the yeast.

I also think it is a good idea for anyone sho has had a yeast problem to always take a probiotic for life. I am not sure about the dosage....as maybe what we are taking for the killing yeast stage may be high for afterwards (maintaining a balance is key...for the good and bad bacteria)...but just getting regular probiotics or even feeding the good ones with the prebiotics may be a way to keep good colonies thriving afterwards.
