For the remainder of this week's newsletter, I'd like to discuss one of the most important groups of nutrients called antioxidants. For those of you who take vitamins on a regular basis, antioxidants are obviously a key factor. We should compare vitamin formulas based on what we consider to be the best combination of antioxidants to fight free radicals in our bodies. Free radicals destroy healthy cells and lead to Alzheimer's disease, cancer, heart disease, stroke and even aging. What you may not know is that there's actually a test to measure the value of antioxidants known as Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, or ORAC. ORAC is a test-tube analysis that measures the potency of antioxidants in foods and vitamins. Studies have shown that high ORAC-value diets fed to middle-age rats prevented some loss of memory and learning ability, maintained the ability of brain cells to respond to certain stimulus (which diminishes with aging) and protected blood vessels from free radical damage.

Obviously, knowing the ORAC value of your vitamin would be extremely important. You'll be happy to know that we've decided to start testing certain products for ORAC values at a third-party independent lab, with an initial focus on multi-vitamins. We've been quite pleased with the initial results.

As you can see, the NSIŪ Synergy line of vitamins scored consistently in the many thousands, with Synergy Platinum coming in at an incredible 10,932 per 1 gram (1,000 mg). Remember, with this product, a recommended serving size is nearly 28 grams. This brings the total score to 306,096. Synergy Ultra came in at 7,666 per gram. With a daily dose of 18 grams, this totals up to 137,988. Synergy Max came in at 7,182. At 26 grams per day, its total is 186,732! We're planning to further "tweak" our formulations to maximize ORAC values whenever possible.

When you compare the typical Synergy results with healthy foods, you'll find the results impressive. For example, an onion is 450, broccoli is 890 and blueberries are 2,400 per 100 grams (100,000 mg). We believe the reason Synergy's ORAC's are so high is because of the highly-concentrated and standardized grape seed, green tea, quercetin, Ester-CŪ, CoQ10 and other powerful antioxidants utilized in these products. You can rest assured the products you purchase from NSIŪ are being formulated based on the most current science and followed up with lab testing for purity, and now ORAC potency. We're very serious about the science behind our products and truly put quality, safety and effectiveness first.
