I found a study from Feb 2024:



How Americans View Weight-Loss Drugs and Their Potential Impact on Obesity in the U.S.

Using it "just to lose weight" is disapproved of, but if someone is carrying extra weight, a metabolic condition is only a matter of time.

Which suggests that people don't know that. I think it's most popular among people at an age where they are ready to despair, and have accumulated enough conditions to make it look like a smart option.

They are "treatment resistant" because they aren't getting treatment, in my opinion.
