It took decades for filmmakers to teach the audience to understand jump cuts, and they stopped drawing the little dotted line from Indiana Jones went from Washington DC to Paris, for instance.

Now, you jump to a scene with the Eiffel Tower in it, and the audience goes, "Oh, yes, Paris."

As a parent in the 80's, I sit with children and watch their shows with them, and point out "selling" in the ads and the show, and we would discuss. They complained about thinking at the time, but both of them remembered.

Advertising with Freudian principles really does work. Which is why I prefer Jung
