Default Can A1c go too low?

Is it possible for A1c to go too low? From what I've read, I don't think so especially on metformin only, but my doctor mentioned it at my 3-month labs followup and my pharmacist educator did too. My latest A1c is 5.4 which I'm ecstatic about and is certainly not too low. I told her my home BS readings are never below 80 and mostly in the 90's.

She suggested reducing my metformin XR to once per day to see what happens. I'm happy to try that, but if home BS readings creep up, I'm going back to 2 times per day no matter what doc says.

She was impressed that I've been able to stick with VLC so far, so she didn't try to dissuade me from that at least.
