Portion size in MyPlan

I am trying to get portion information for a can of asparagus. The portion is "1 can 300x407". I am not sure what "300 x 407" means. can anyone help?

Jayseem, I've never seen a label on anything indicate measures like that. Are you sure you're looking at the Manufacturer's Suggested Serving Size? It will be right at the top of the Nutrition Panel. On US foods, it usually gives a serving measured in cups or measuring spoonfuls (or in the case of asparagus spears, a certain number of spears) followed by a weight in grams enclosed in parentheses.

Can you post the brand name of the asparagus? Then I can try to find it online. :)

Perhaps this explanation and diagram from the USDA will help you:

Kisal, I am sorry, but I put My Plan in the title and My Plan should have also been in the body of the message and it wasn't. Let me try again. If you go to My PLan in this forum and do a Food Search for asparagus, then choose any canned asparagus, then go to the portion size drop down list and there you will see as one of the choices: "1 can 300x407". I believe that this is true for any of the canned asparagus items. Hope that this clears it up a bit. I think that I can back into it by checking the nutrition information per ounce and comparing it to "1 can 300x407". Thank you.

I see what it is now. It is about 400 grams in weight. The "1 can 300x407" numbers are close to 4 x the 100 gram numbers.

I see what you mean! I find it odd, too. The way you're looking at it may be right. My first impression was that the numbers represented the size of the can.

If the asparagus is in spears, you could just count the number you eat, since there is a selection for "1 spear." If the asparagus is cut, you could pour off the liquid and measure the solids in a measuring cup.

It was to avoid problems like this that I finally bought my little digital scale!

Sorry I can't be of any real help to you. :(
