i feel a cold coming on. can i pop a vitamin c pill, without screwing things up?

absolutely! In fact I would reccomend popping extra vitamin C all the time. What vitamins are U presently taking? The only thing U need to watch for is read the label. Make sure they dont contain sugar or starch.
