Vancouver Low Carb Get Together - Monday, February 23, 2004

We're planning a LC get together and we're inviting all of the lower mainland LC'ers who'd like to, to join us. The restaurant we are discussing going to is a Greek place we went to in the summer. It's on Hastings near Nanaimo and we'll have better details on that soon.

I'm a yea for Monday the 23rd.

please count me in, too, folks!

Just a thought--there's a little cafe up on Nanaimo just north of Hastings that specializes in wild game, etc. I can't for the life of me remember the name. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I'd really love to go there again and I bet they'd be very accommodating for LCers... Unfortunately lots of restaurants are closed on Monday and it might be, too....

thanks for starting the thread, Marlaine!

tentative "yes" from me, too! One of my kids has a ski trip on that evening and will need to be picked up at 9pm at the school. Depending on DHs schedule, it may have to be me!

I, personally, don't care much for Greek food, so I don'y care if it's at the originally suggested place or LittleAnne's suggestion.

Hi,

Count me in too. I really enjoy reading all of your posts and would love to spend an evening with people I find very supportive.

Cheers

I suggested the greek restaurant at Lakewood & Hastings because I'm craving lamb. The food there is very good and I'm picky about my lamb. Also, they are very accommodating to us as low carbers and happily make the substitutions we ask for. The restaurant has a nice layout that suits a large group, parking is easy and it's relatively inexpensive. That said, if someone has a better suggestion and would like to arrange things, I'm happy to go along with the consensus.

I seem to recall there were lots of choices on the menu at the Greek place and, while I won't order the roast lamb again (found it greasy), I am happy to go back there. I love chicken souvlaki, for instance: olive oil, lemon and oregano.. YUM! :)

PS Who's Jan? By process of elimination, I think you mean Annie/Sunpines?

Don't forget me :D

There's a South American restaurant on Alberni - the name escapes me now - that is a complete and total meatfest. Different meats are paraded around the dining room on large skewers and are sliced and served at the table. There's also a salad bar and the whole shebang is one price.

It might be a good option, but the parking is not the greatest.

I'll also add that when I was there, the meat paraders were pretty cute! ;)

OK, I just found a link to it...

Wow.... cuties parading meat????.... what more could a good lil LC'er ask for? :D

jeanyyy Sat, Jan-24-04 14:01

Yes... Samba :) I think it's around $20+ at night, though. I was there once with a group of friends, right near the beginning. Some of the bigger eaters were disappointed cos the servers didn't seem to come around often enough or give big enough servings... Mind you, it could be these folks just prefer a big plate of food all at once. The salad bar was very small with limited choices, although it may be bigger now.
