Cool! I keep thinking Banana when I see that. :)

Here's a study in the Oxford Journal about it, sounds like it works like insulin, which makes me worry about weight gain. But in this study is slimmed mice down. Hmmm...http://ecam.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/full/4/4/401

I have been taking a supplement that contains banaba. It has other ingredients too. So I am not sure which product is really helping. All I know is the supplement has reduced my over all bs in the past two weeks.

The supplement is called Glucocil and the main claim is that it reduces the immediate after meal (30 minutes after eating) blood sugar.

When I first started taking it, my after meal bs were lower than my before meal bs. The manufacturer could not expain that. My half hour bs were lower than my before meal bs and at one hour my bs had dropped extremely low, one time my one hour bs was as low as 66.

During the past two weeks, I am not getting the drastic low after meal bs. What I am getting is overall lower readings. All my bs are lower than they were before.

I have also lost 3 pounds in the past week.

I'm interested. I have my banaba bottle sitting and waiting to be experimented with, but I think I'll try it in January..

Eddie,

Let me know your results with the banaba. I don't think the Aloe Vera is all that good. I'm getting back on the berberine on Tuesday.

Astonish how does this supplement do for your fasting glucose in the mornings? I used to take a supplement regularly called Optima 100 by Roex. It did nothing for my fasting levels yet it kept my levels pretty low after eating. Always under 110 sometimes in the nineties. The berberine works better for my fasting levels.

astonish Mon, Nov-03-08 08:34

I have stopped taking a fasting glucose measurment. Mine are always fine, so, to save test strips. I cut out that test.

Looking back to when I was taking them, I was getting readings of 118-138-144-130-110 twice

Since taking Glucocil I have only taken a fasting a few times
83-103-78-111 so it does seem like it helped there.

The first few days that I took it
fasting 83 before lunch 108. After lunch 97, an hour later 108, before dinner 116 after dinner 120

Day two fasting 145 before lunch 155 after lunch 135, an hour later 109 before dinner 116 after dinner 74 an hour later 116

Day three fasting 103 before lunch 121 after lunch 106

Here was a dramtic one
fasting 78 before lunch 97 after 111 an hour later 66 before dinner 87 after dinner 102 an hour later 80

Like I said, the manufacturer didn't know why my bs were dropping after taking the supplement and eating a meal. I was taking other supplements and taking metformin, But these were the same ones that I was taking before starting the Glucocil.

It may have been a synergestic effect of all combined.

Lately I am not getting the strange effect of lower bs after --in comparison to before eating.

I thought it was spelled: glucocil
I found that when I searched for it.

Cajunboy47 Mon, Nov-03-08 14:32

Eddie, I think it is spelled glucocil and not glucosil....

I think the downside of this product is two-fold:

One, it is marketed as a safe alternative, which it may be, but it is hyped up for marketing purposes, thus, I'm sure to get this combination pill is costing a high mark-up for the quantity of each ingredient that is in it.

Two, with a combo pill, there isn't a flexibility with the mixed ingredients. One diabetic could very well get same good results as another diabetic would if one or more of those ingredients were taken at a different level.

I've not seen the amounts of each ingredient included in the pill, but if it is like other similar combo pills, I'm sure it will lack a little of something.

From my experience with herbs, combining is like getting something custom made. What works with a particular combination for one person will probably not have a similar measured success with another. It is not to say the ingredients won't work, just that particular combination might not be suitable for some people. Factors such as; metabolism, body weight, age, overall current health, activity, diet, etc.. will have an influence on what dosage is needed.

Herbs are more subtle then prescription drugs and thus more subject to variances in the amounts needed to produce a desired result.

Anyway, that is just my opinion based on my experiences....

okay I spelled it wrong obviously. It sounds like a good supplement. Might try it when I come off of the berberine.
