Anyone with Celiac Disease?
 
I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and can't eat wheat, barley or rye. Someone suggested I try the Paleo way of eating. I was wondering if there is anyone else doing Paleo that have Celiac?

I wasn't ever diagnosed, but I have a huge gluten intolerance. I stopped eating all gluten about 7 years ago. You'll find a lot of folks here have the same issue. Some of us are probably celiacs, but we figured out gluten was causing problems and we got it out of our lives.

I'm the same, I've never been diagnosed, but my mother was. I dont know if its hereditary, but I'm certainly better without gluten!

Like everyone else, I was never officially diagnosed (actually when I did food allergy testing my Naturopath said that I am highly intolerant to whey/casein, but show no signs of intolerance to gluten - not even a little :confused: ). Well, when I eat gluten, I bloat like crazy - my fingers look like mini sausages - so I'm listening to my body's messages and definitely avoid gluten.

Paleo is wonderful way of eating if you'd like to cut gluten (and/or dairy). Enjoy all the paleo blogs and cookbooks! :)

I'm in the same boat as these other folks. No official diagnosis (never even bothered to get tests,) but the symptoms are sure there. The intolerance to the gluten causes me pain, bloating, diahhrea and other problems. Giving up grains was far easier than this former bread-o-holic ever expected, and it's one of the best things I've ever done for myself. I feel soooo much better.

yes, also celiac. the worst is accidental exposure. i go up 10lbs in a day with bloating and pain and aches. its horrible, but a blessing also. it makes avoiding grains so much easier than if i didn't feel so ill from them

I don't have celiac disease (as far as I know) but I am allergic to wheat and can't handle any grains or other starch foods. It's sort of like celiac disease but worse! :lol:
In my opinion paleo is ideal for somebody with celiac disease.

My mom was diagnosed with it. I was told it was hereditary so thought that I should just avoid grains. I bet you'll do great eating this way. Good luck!

yep it is all in my family, we all have gluten intolerance with some wheat allergy mixed in & of course other food allergies. My sister & her husband are paleo, I am paleo, my dil & grandson & granddaughter are gluten free, my dil tends more towards paleo. My grandson has a serious problem with cross contamination and will get violently ill with vomiting & diarrhea & other stuff. He NEVER cheats & takes his food with him to school & to other kids houses. He is trying to cut the GF carbs to lose weight & only has them as an occasional treat. He is 12 now.

My son is addicted to wheat & the oldest grandson age 16, is also addicted, they cannot or will not get off of it. My son is overweight & unhealthy-ish & the 16 year old is too skinny...

I have celiac, and have been gluten free for over 2 years. However, even cutting gluten, I still deal with fibromyalgia, PCOS, and other issues. My chiropractor has recommended going to a Paleo diet, as he believes that sugar and other grains are still causing an inflammatory process to occur, and with a history of a damaged gut, causing vitamin deficiencies. I have done Atkins in the past (prior to Celiac dx), and had lost weight, and even though I still need to lose weight, it's not really my main concern anymore-my health is. So, I'm trying to figure out the Paleo lifestyle.

I find that most other grains cause me similar issue, as do potato and a lot of other foods. I would look into blood type diets. I was sceptical, but when I tried it it worked So well. if you are an 0 blood type, the paleeo type diet is perfect. look into it! I hope you find something that works.
I have lots lmost 40lbs just doing the 0 blood type diet. im trying to keep it fairly low carb, but mostly focusing on what foods to avoid and eat base don my blood type.

suequeblue, most people with fibro cannot eat corn...
GF did little for a lot of people with gluten problems. For one thing all those GF grains are cross contaminated with gluten. I cannot tolerate ANY gluten. I will occasionally - at holidays have something with sorghum flour, & NOT bob's Red Mill brand - I totally cannot eat anything from that facility, it is like a bull blown glutening...

so, yep, most of us that want to be healthy stick to paleo, my only concessions are chocolate and pinto beans - occasionally on the pintos. Too often on the chocolate! :help:

I only drink water, so I do not have the coffee/tea addiction that most people deal with. & I absolutely have NEVER used any artificial sugar.

I do eat a lot of kale and sweet potatoes and bacon & the bacon grease that I cook with. I have always been allergic to white potatoes & black pepper. I do tolerate the occasional tomato sauce etc - but I do not cook with it at home anymore... & I do not put tomatoes in my salads, each to what makes them feel the best.

But one thing for sure, whatever your health problems (if not from an accident etc) are ALL food related. You will be amazed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just recently admitted to myself I could no longer have the glutten. Cleared up the diarrhea and the joint pain. I have never been diagnosed with Celiac but something is out of wack. The only grain I have stopped is wheat. I rarely have rye or barley but will avoid it.

I think I am lactose intollerant also. The old body dosn't want to work right anymore. :lol:
