MTFHR Gene Test: Positive!

My husband and I have been struggling with his ME/CFS for years, and he struggled alone for years before that. Despite some progress with the antibiotic protocol, (similar to Lyme disease) we have coasted to a plateau when a post here made me aware of the MTFHR mutations that are just being studied.

Well, we finally got our results back. He's got it! The A1298C.

This is the one implicated in what's called Neuro-Immune diseases, so it explains so much!

It took a while to hunt down an actual protocol, since this is so new and so variable, but here it is:

Methylation Protocol for ME/CFS

We have brought our wonderful doctor on board and he's ordered further tests. This detox can lead to Herxheimer reactions which we are very familiar with from the antibiotic therapy, so I urge everyone to take the same precautions:

This is such thrilling news! Finally, something to point to on a lab printout and say, "SEE!"

Very good info, I think I'm going to print it off and show it to my mother. Thanks

Did you guys get 23andme.com gene analysis? I did and ran it through Prometerase and got info about the MTHR gene. I didn't really understand all that much about it or why it was significant. The site I found just had lots of confusing supplement information. Sounds like someone had found a good way to drive up their supplement sales.

Great!

One source said the A1298C was implicated in Neuro-Immune Disorders, (ME/CFS, Parkinson's, MS, Alzheimer's, etc) while the other known kind, 677CC, has cardiac implications.

One thing that makes us feel we are on the right track is that several of the nutritional items are things we are already doing, because we noticed they helped.

My mom as both A1298C and C677T (one on each chromosome). I have C677T.

I've been taking l-methylfolate (rx'd as deplin, name brand, 7.5 mg/d, called a "medical food"). It's made an incredible difference in my life. Mom takes it too, and it has had amazing effects on her, as well, though totally different than what I've experienced.

Is DH going to supplement?
