Vitamin B complex

I read something a couple days ago about vitamin B complex not being good for diabetics, that it can contribute to strokes & other bad things. It was perhaps at Blood Sugar 101 but now I can't find it.

I've been taking a B complex for some time & always thought it was a good thing. But I take it for the same reason I take most vitamins - don't know if it's doing me any good, but surely it's not harming me. But if it's bad for me, I'll stop taking it.

Anyone know anything more about this?

Found it - it was Blood Sugar 101: http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/43067994.php

4 I've Reversed My Recommendations About Supplemental B Vitamins.
It's traditional to recommend that people not eating grains should supplement with B vitamins. But over the past few years new data about B vitamin supplementation has made it clear that, as has been the case with so many other vitamins, B vitamin pills may actually worsen, not improve your health. Supplementation with B vitamins has been linked to increases in the speed at which kidneys deteriorate and to a higher risk of strokes.

If you don't eat grains, get your B vitamins from cheese, yogurt, and green vegetables.

I eat only a tiny amount of cheese, no yogurt, and not much in the way of green veggies - usually just a big handful of lettuce.

According to my most recent blood tests, my kidney function is fine. I do worry about stroke as it runs in my family.

Red meat and egg yolks are also high in B vitamins. ;)

I think it is long term use of biotin that is the one to watch for.
As you know, I'm a type I- but I am also prescribed B1 for my neuropathy. Most stores only sell b12, which isn't what really helps the nerves anyhow (most people get enough b12). I order it from Amazon.

Personally, I would ask your dr on this one. You don't want to mess around with your b vit balance!
