Wa'il; do you think it might be a good idea to bring a copy of the book report down to this thread as well?

Joe

Sure,

Eat Yourself Slim by Michel Montignac (1999?)
PRO- The most fascinating part of this diet is that you do not count , carbohydrate or calories.

There are only two phases to this plan.
Phase 1.- You stay on this until you get to your ideal weight.
Phase 2.- This is the maintenance portion that you live with the rest of your life.

Carbohydrates- The foods are not shown in grams, but are given an 'index number' to show their glycemic index, for a comparison of 'good' and 'bad' carbs.

As an example here is a short list:
High Glycemic Index Carbohydrates:
Maltose (beer) 110
Glucose 100
Baked potatoes 95
Hamburger Rolls 85
Sugar (saccharose) 70
Corn 70
Long-grain rice 60
Bananas 60
Shortbread cookies 55

Low Glycemic Index Carbs.
Brown Rice 50
Sweet Potatoes 50
Oatmeal 40
Rye Bread 40
Raw Carrots 30
Dairy Products 30
Green Lentils 22
Fresh Apricots 15
Green Veggies < 15

Phase 1 - You eat three substantial meals a day plus snacks.
He also does not expect anybody to over eat these meals. You use only Carbs that have a Glycemic index from 0 to 35. Of course these meals do include protein and fats.

Phase 2 - You can eat the rest of your life from 0 to 50 which will maintain your weight.

For people who have high blood pressure or heart conditions, he does also recommend low fat, and low cholesterol foods.

I do not know if any of our members who have been on this Plan, but I am thinking of trying it, as CAD is too slow for me.

I like the idea of not having to count carbs or calories,

"Montignac" not Monignac.... urk. Sorry Wa'il. Spelling is really a bugbear with me {said sheepishly}

hey Judy,

special editors will be ensuring all is in order before the reviews are posted to the permanent webpage ;)

Um, not quite. Actually, it would really be appreciated if the authors of the book reviews could do a double-check for errors, and other helpful editing .... so that the tired, over-worked, un-paid volunteers won't have quite as big a task!! :p .. hint , hint

The odd spelling mistake is a piece of cake .... lowcarb of course.

Doreen, I assume you are suggesting that we check spelling of only our own book reports? Correct?

I would be too embarrassed to correct anybody else's spelling errors, who is working so hard to keep this Forum on track.

I would think that anybody can check their own work by using the 'spell checker' at the bottom of each message that anybody sends to the Forum. I always use it if I send a long message.

It is amazing the errors I can make when I try to type fast, even though I know how to spell. I believe this same problem would apply to anyone that is not a skilled typist.

Joe

P.S. It would be much more convenient if the spell checker included all the authors names and all the short forms that we use, to send a message on the Internet, is; WOE, WOL, etc.

If possible, that would be great! As well, perhaps some of the formats that don't fit the agreed-upon outline. (not picking on anybody, as this could apply for reviews to come in future as well... and many thanks in advance ;))

heheheeeeee!!! .. :D .. Oh, wouldn't that be wonderful! I confess I never use spell-checker, and far too often my posts end up with typos, and especially letters reversed.

How much is enough?

Hi

I'm fairly new to this and have been following a weight loss programme quite successfully. However, if anyone can answer this I'd be grateful.
How much carbohydrate do I need to eat to trigger the insulin release?
For example, some cook in sauces state a very tiny amount of starch or carbohydrate in the ingredients - will this be enough to release insulin or not?
Or eating out - a sauce may have been thickened with flour/starch. It will only be a tiny amount but how will that effect the overall meal?
I know Montignac states in his book that the effects of a 'bad' charbohydrate will be lessened or offset by eating lots of 'good' fibre and veg. but how much?
I just long for the occasional quick and easy meal with a cook-in sauce!

Thanks JaneD

spell checker is it still around?

Hello,

Does this spell checker referred to above still exist? I have never seen it. Sometimes I type my post on a notepad and cut and paste to here so I can spell check because I could never find a spell checker on the actual thing we type the post on.
