I just started taking a multivitamin w/o iron (yesterday), and chromium and Co-enzyme Q10 (today). While everything was normal when I first got up today, a couple of hours after taking the last 2... my urine was EXTREMELY yellow. Is this a result of taking one of those 2 supplements? It really was a funny colour.

Yep although I forget which does it but my multivitamin does the same for me.

hi Jean,

Yes, it's the multivite. Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is a dye, and will turn the urine a fluorescent neon yellow. Beta-carotene (which may or may not be in your particular pill) can also darken the urine. Drinking lots of water will make it a bit less startling ;)

hth,

Doreen

Hi --

I'm no expert here, but I read in Consumer Reports that the neon yellow urine comes from the passing of B vitamins. That is, what the body does not absorb is excreted. Their advice was to take the vitamins every other day; no need to waste vitamins that are not being absorbed, after all.

That being said, I have the yellow urine syndrome and have not changed my vitamin habits. IMHO, it's a small price to pay to ensure that I am getting enough B-complex vitamins, even if some are wasted.

Hope this helps -- Robert
