Bat Spit turned me on to these. You can order them online and there are stores out there that sell them, best look on their web site: http://penzeys.com/

Anyway, I went through a bottle of their "Sunny Paris" super fast. Next time I'll order it in a larger bag. I'm also burning through Turkish Spices which actually tastes extremely Mexican. I devised a couple of recipes using them.

Trader Joe's has chicken chorizo sausages and that is what I use.

=========================
Chorizo Y Huevos Yum

1 Chorizo sausage
3 eggs
2 tsp Turkish spices
1/4 Cup chopped tomatoes (from can is fine)
Cayenne pepper to taste

Brown a chorizo sausage, cut up in a pan with some grease (I used goose, of course!)

In a bowl break 3 eggs and add about 2 tsp of Penzey's Turkish spices (might need more if you use someone elses Mexican spices).

Pour eggs and tomatoes over the sausage. Stir and cook until eggs are set.

FABULOUS and very filling. I actually used to make this with Ranchero sauce but discovered I like it better without.
=========================================================

3 minute Chorizo Soup

1 Chorizo sausage cut up
Chicken broth
Canned diced tomatoes (optional)
Turkish spices (about 1 tsp)
Cayenne pepper to taste

Microwave sausage in a bowl for 1.5 minutes. Pour everything else in the bowl and microwave about another 1.5 minutes. Eat! Have a box of tissues nearby, your sinuses will drain. :)

Sounds lovely...what's to talk about ? :lol:

Maybe we need an Ethnic & Spice section in the recipe forums....? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Thanks for sharing those, hon. They sound quite tasty. My poor "fridge soup" is looking for some inspiration now -- what spice should I throw into the V8-cookedgroundorganicbeefandchicken-shiritakiwithseaweed-gardenbayleaf-basil mix to give it some more oomph? Actually, I'm thinking some cumin and thyme, cumin and herbs seem to go well....whatcha think?

I'd dump in some Turkish seasoning, simply because I'm utterly hooked. :) Here's what is in there: Flake salt, cumin, garlic, half-sharp paprika, black pepper, Turkish oregano, sumac, cilantro.

What is half-sharp paprika?

Although the Sunny Paris spices might suit better, it seems like your soup might like greener flavors like: shallots, chives, green peppercorns, dill weed, basil, tarragon, chervil and bay leaf.

I often find a tad bit of bullion sometimes makes soup come to life. I get this stuff called "Better than Bullion" and it is good, but pretty salty. I used to mix it with regular chicken broth to make it taste more chicken-y.

Yeah, I got so excited over these spices because they have soooo much flavor compared to the stuff you buy in regular stores.

It seems Penzey's Spices are a better price too - or is that my imagination?
