I use sunflower oil all the time and there is no funny taste at all. HTH

The only oil I get an odd taste from is canola. Always tastes fishy to me...

That being said, if a neutral oil like sunflower is tasting odd to you, is it old? Has it been stored in a warm place? Any oil can get rancid, and then it's unhealthy, never mind odd...

If a cooking oil has a bitter aftertaste, and smells stale (can only describe this as, um, old deepfryer smell), it's gone and needs to be disposed of.
