Is there a good daily PILL (oh please not that powdered stuff :puke: ick) that helps aiding in bm's ? Hubby takes the powdered stuff and quite frankly I can't drink that nasty stuff.
I've tried FiberCon and no go, I've taken it 4x day for 4 days like recommended :hyper: ?
Thanks !!

HI Leenie,
I take Ultra Fiber tabs...I get them at Wal Mart ...and I go every morning !! I kid you not...I used to be someone who went once every 4 days...I sometimes also take 3TBLS. of Flax seed in the a.m....but you need to drink lots of water as it is a bulking agent....Good luck..

Flax oil works wonders. One tablespoon for every 50 pounds of body weight. It also helps with food cravings also.

Metamucil makes fiber capsules, also. That's what I've been taking and it has seemed to help.

I take the sugar free Fiber Choice, it's a chewable tablet (doesn't taste bad) it keeps me pretty regular. I get it at CVS Drug Store.

Instead of relying on fiber in pill or powder form, I like to make chocolate flax seed muffins and eat one for breakfast every day. Tastes (almost) like a regular chocolate muffin, especially topped with a little cream cheese, and all that flax seed meal provides plenty of fiber.

Can you share the recipe? Anything remotely sounding like chocolate is HEAVEN!!
Thanks!

Sure Loric. This is not my recipe, so I can't take credit for it. I just found it on the web somewhere.
Chocolate Flax Seed Muffins
Makes 12
1 c flax seed meal
1/2 c whey protein powder chocolate flavour
4 T oil
1/4 cup splenda
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
2 t baking powder
2 t artificial maple extract
1/2 t salt
2 oz. chopped almonds (optional)
1 c water
Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl, let stand for 3 minutes. Spray a 12 muffin pan with non-stick spray. Spoon batter evenly into muffin tins. Bake 25-30 minutes at 350.
Note: Instead of buying chocolate whey protein powder, I just bought vanilla so I can use it in a variety of recipes. Add some cocoa powder and Splenda, and you've got chocolate! The more cocoa you add, the more chocolatey they will be. I also didn't have maple extract so I used a dash of almond. Next time, I'm thinking of mixing in some DaVinci's for added flavor, although these muffins are about the best low-carb ones I have tried. I freeze them, then thaw one out when I want it and eat with cream cheese.

Try Metamucil capsules. You have to take quite a few but you could take a couple at each meal and at bed time. Also, there is a fairly new fiber supplement, Benefiber. It is mixed in liquid but is not grainy, has no taste, and does not get thick. It can be mixed into your coffee, tea, or water - but not in carbonated beverages.
If you haven't been in several days, you might try some Milk of Magnesia for a clean out and then start with the metamucil capsules. I've tried most of the fiber supplements - fibercon, citracel, etc - but they don't seem to work as well as metamucil (psyllium). I think you can get psyllium capsules at natural food stores or GNC, etc that are cheaper than the Metamucil brand.

I made that recipe using designer whey protien and almond extract instead of the maple, and no nuts. Each muffin ends up being 4 net carbs and 136 calories, which isn't to bad. The author of the recipe claimed that even usnig soy milk they were suposed to be only 1 ECC, but I think she wasn't counting the carbs from the flax seeds. They do have some. I found it didin't help with regularity though. I ended up with bloating, gas, and pain for most of the day. It wasn't too filling either. I do have them around though because they are great for those days you just really want a muffin and if you aren't getting one you're going to march over to the donut shop and get a mammoth one :)

LadyBelle,
My calculations came out to about 1.5 grams of carbs per muffin, after I subtracted the fiber. Wonder if I've been doing it wrong and miscounting my carbs all this time! My carbs all came from the Splenda, eggs and maybe a little in the whey protein (don't remember.) I didn't use nuts in it though, so that may be the difference.

Flax seeds do have some net carbs, though not much. The packaging says it's all fiber, but looking on fitday and other carb counters there are some carbs. The designer whey doesn't have many carbs if any and tastes ok. I didin't use nuts either, I was using ingredients on hand. I may make some nut muffins here soon though. I also only came out with 11 muffins, so if you do the full 12 they will be a tad smaller and may be a little lower carb each.

Easy question.
Buy some Flax-o-meal hot cereal from a company called Low Carb Success. You can buy it on netrition.com.
Eat 1/2 cup three times per week. Guaranteed to set you free! No, seriously, it has a very gentle natural laxative effect that will take 24-36 hours, but is quite effective.
They sell lots of flavors, the taste is quite good, and your avoiding chemicals and artificial products that you shouldn't be taking anyway.

I went to Walgreens yesterday and bought FiberChoice without reading the label. There's 8g of carbs in 2 pills.

I use a mixed fiber supp from whole foods. Per tablespoon, it has 3.5 gm soluble and 1gm insoluble. No extra carbs. It has mostly psyllium, and some other fiber sources as well. Tastes incredibly nasty by itself dissolved in water.
I ordered some Keto-J awhile back (orange flavored powdered drink from Keto Foods, supposed to be an OJ replacement). Never really used it because it was like really strong Tang, but I mix a tsp in with a tbs of the fiber stuff, and it now tastes like the orange flavored metamucil to me, just without the extra carbs!
That benefiber stuff is supposed dissolve nicely without much taste as well, might be cheaper than the fiber pills.

I hope it's not too late to post to this thread.
You can check how much magnesium you're getting. A magnesium supplement will do the trick.
